So I finally got 1&2 after it spending years under the radar for me, I should note I had zero idea of these games besides them being girmdark. >Game is a horror turn based RPG >Big point of combat is dismemberment <Enemies can very easily do the same to you including blinding the party >Shit is also based on the toss of a coin >Items are also RNG <RNG will rape you harder the enemies will >Grinding much like last remnant will get you nowhere >Choosing your starting character and knowing to use them is the difference between a good run and bad run >You will be raped <In the literal sense >Sound design is excellent >Each time you get into combat you feel the insane risk of each encounter >The Eclipse style monsters and tier events >Some enemies can be talked to while giving you a thrashing >NPCs range from insane to tragic <You can recruit several

SMW ROMHACKS (and other romhacks I guess) Anonymous 04/05/2025 (Sat) 21:00:25 Id: 97fd86 No. 1086469 [Reply] [Last]
Any love for Super Mario World romhacks around these parts? It's my favorite Mario title and 2D platformer in general by far for the tight movement and fast gameplay, and romhacks have made this shine. Here are some hacks I really enjoyed: >Pic related Pretty easy overall with the exception of a few secret levels but the game looks amazing. All the sprites are hand drawn and the music choice is nice. You've probably played it if you're ITT but if not do it. >New Super Mario World 1: The Twelve Magic Orbs Powered-Up Specifically the Powered-Up version as this is an update to an older hack. So many cool custom power ups in this remake and unique levels that take advantage of them. Long, but worth 100%ing. The final boss will make you cry (with frustration). >Super Mario World: The Secret of the 7 Golden Statues Another hack with cool custom power ups and some really tough levels. Some annoying areas but still a great hack overall. >JUMP 1/2 Definitely the most creative hack out there that's not total nonsense. This game can be very difficult at times but each stage or couple of stages introduces a new gimmick. I dont want to give anything away, it's way more fun to work your way through this sadistic adventure yourself. 130 exits, many fun but many very challenging. >Akogare My own personal kaizo autism. Never finished it due to losing my save file but I completed around 30 exits and got some switch palaces too. Normally I was never down for kaizo but I tried Akogare and after I completed stage 1 I couldn't stop. The game is beautifully designed, and even when I was trolled by the dev I wasn't mad because I was having fun doing the stage anyway. Not for everyone, but a great personal challenge. I could go on. But please Anons tell me about your love for romhacks and post your favorites as well.

I tried making a SMW romhack years ago but I lost the motivation to do it, afterwards I made more romhacks/mods that were never released to the public, which of course, most of them are not finished and cancelled, all for the same reason, I was burned out to the point of pretty much gave up. After seeing this thread though, maybe I should start coming back my own romhacking days. The simpler times.

Aka be glad (((Tel Aviv))) only knows how to make Raid: Shadow Legends edition. Given how many anons here play these titles and request an area to discuss them beyond Blue Archive >>1034800, given how many JP devs have fled to mobile as some of their more senile contemporaries chase the dead ESG gold rush, given how the bishoujo market is concentrated in mobage, and given how many players have actually banded together and organized to repel and BTFO globohomo as of late, I think a mini >>>/vmg/ is warranted. As OP I however get to christen it a "ghetto" until somebody else takes over the succeeding OPs. Do note that all discussion related to the technological and industry dynamic shifts these live services (yes they are live services) propose as well as topics directly pertaining to their cross-platform nature (i.e talking about how Aether Gazer is available on both PC and mobile or the number of gacha games on Steam) should be directed to this thread instead >>986877 If you want to discuss, say, how Lies of P and Brown Dust 2 were both developed by Neowiz, or how neato Versus and Relink are as part of Cygames' Granblue Fantasy IP, do it over there. You can talk about Action Taimanin's 4th anniversary, you can't talk about how well it runs on PC here. Non-gacha MMOs should also be directed to the existing MMO thread >>897003 Post memes, post updates to your chosen main gacha, post liveblogs of your playthroughs, post artdumps, post collabs, post obscure JP and about-to-EOS gachas, post about how the fuck match-three RPGs are still on the market, post about Senran Kagura New Link and Dead or Alive: Penis Vacation, complain about drama and monetization and mixed toilet games and girls trying to push their otome bishie gachas, just make your contributions high effort and high quality and try to max out 8chan's 5-file 50MB upload limit. You are allowed to be horny about certain characters, but your posts about them must be substantive (no >>>/vb/ template posting, for example). <geez, are you smug's owner No, I care about digital hygiene and board nettiquette. NEWS AT A GLANCE Going to try to hash out a format since this is very new for 8/v/. >GFL2, the successor to many anons' favorite gacha circa 2017, is set to come to Global this fall with a closed beta test and prereg being held. (Read: they need that gweilo piggu money.) Luckily, they are cranking up that fanservice, of which I won't post yet because this OP needs to cover multiple titles. >Unluckily, the CN state censor department has randomly struck a bunch of gachas with notices to sharpie over their character designs, the most notable of which was Snowbreak, enrager of BPD harpies everywhere, and Path to Nowhere. For the time being, Snowbreak has elected to use the localization toggle as a way to technically comply with said censor wave while still giving its playerbase what it wants; its future is still uncertain though as the devs continue to give Winnie the Pooh the finger. It seems like more and more that CN devs need to move off West Taiwan's mainland if they are to realize their creative and financial ambitions. >In general, the global economic downturn has meant that the gacha market has slowly been contracting on mobile. PC, however, seems to be booming as devs find that players are willing to open their wallets without having to pay Apple and Gulag the provider tax. >Arknights and Nikke are holding their 5.5 and 2nd anniversaries respectively, with both of them making big stinks about how they have new anime projects in the pipeline, never mind how all people remember from Blue Archive airing is Iori's toes getting sucked. >Azur Promilia has started receiving age ratings in Taiwan. >Mihomo has rebranded its Harvest Moon knockoff project from Asteweave Heaven to Petit Planet. >Uma Musume is gearing up for a global release. When? Not clear. This is for umaanon though. >Infinity Nikki is making waves as a big open world gacha that Soyny is banking on to get some crumbs after chasing off every Asian third party in existence.

Discuss Crypt, Cadence of Hyrule and Rift of the Necrodancer in this thread. You love rhythm games and roguelites right?? Brag about beating the game if you did. I finally beat Aria, Bolt, Monk and Nocturna all zones modes recently, in that order. It felt great, clocking in around ~100 hours of playtime in Crypt. Only got around 20 hours in Rift, the songs on hard difficulty really get difficult after a point. Charming rhythm games, I regret not learning about them until recently. Now I'm not sure if I want to actually try to unlock Coda and attempt the ultimate challenge Crypt of the Necrodancer has to offer. It reportedly accommodates both Linux/Windows, the device will either use a 7800U or a RK3588S processor for the higher-end model and will launch in October with three models costing between an estimated 1500元 ($220) and 3500元 ($500), though prices are not final. There is no publicly known name for the device yet >Gaming analyst firm Omdia estimates Steam Deck has sold over 2,000,000 units so far, having sold 1,600,000 in 2021 alone, and will likely surpass 3,000,000 this year. This makes the SD not just the bestselling UMPC in history, but possibly majority of UMPC sales ever. The firm believes the device "will open the door to a new PC gaming product category" Thread questions >What do you own? >What are you playing on it? >Anybody gotten involved in the scary world of hardmodding yet, and how did it go? >Anything you're excited for? Valve is still 100% backing the device themselves and their branding power has guaranteed the homebrew scene will also stick around for the foreseeable future, at least until a Steam Deck 2 comes out which might not be for a while. Besides, these handhelds have never sold on power, the Deck might not be able to run the latest AAA games but it's still more than enough for what people do end up playing the most on it.

I got this thing for 300€ a while ago. Only needed to replace the analog sticks (they're just Vita 2000 sticks). Really nice for retro games (up to PS2, with only some games requiring a little more power), and plays some newer games decently well. Dark Souls 2 runs at a crisp 30FPS with 4W/8W min-max! Fan's a bit noisy, but there was a cooling upgrade that I could try hunting down, or make my own. I just wish it didn't buzz like a bee when I slightly tilt it while it's spinning fast. I like this thing, but I think I'm gonna upgrade for the Win Mini down the line, I can see some floating around for about 900€. I think I can sell this thing for about 250-300€, then go on with the Win Mini.

Ports that are completely different games Anonymous 03/25/2025 (Tue) 16:29:20 Id: 150ba4 No. 1082590 [Reply] [Last]
A really interesting phenomenon prominent during the 2000s, but existed outside of it. It wasn't uncommon for a game to launch on 5-7 different platforms with each version being a completely different game, this was especially common for tie-in games. Though I'm less interested in that, and more interested in the games that were something else entirely. Be it a different campaign like Quake 2 N64, or just an entirely original game like the GBA Daikatana Zelda-like. I'd like to hear about more of these I'm unaware of.

Conker’s Pocket Tales has entirely different level layouts, camera, and interface, along with some graphical changes, between the original Gameboy and Gameboy color. This is despite being on the same cartridge. Their saves aren’t even cross compatible, making you restart if you swap between original Gameboy and Gameboy Color. Asscreed Shadows delayed AGAIN Anonymous 01/09/2025 (Thu) 19:25:58 Id: 8de81b No. 1059141 [Reply] [Last]
This just in, Assassin's Creed: Shadows has been delayed another two months from January 9th to March 20th. This comes directly after the report from "People Make Games" who I'm not going to link to since they're massive faggots, where one of their support studios "Brandoville" is charged with abusing Indonesia developers to make assets for the upcoming game. Not to mention the outright fuckery going on with Sweet Baby Inc and general disrespect towards Japanese culture, and you have a game that's set to crash and burn when it releases this March. This is on top of the Guillemot brothers desperately trying to retain control of the company and is trying to go private as the Tencent buyout has currently haulted according to Insider-Gaming. This is ON TOP of the failures of Star Wars, Avatar, Skull and Bones, and XDefiant with some of their failing projects far exceeding 100 million. Finally Ubisoft is likely to go private in 2025 with people within Ubisoft themselves believing that nothing will actually change if an acquisition would take place. Ubisoft is FUCKED https://archive.ph/wip/ZhFH8 https://archive.ph/wip/luh03

Video game genres that you dislike and why. Anonymous 04/18/2025 (Fri) 21:38:39 Id: fa8565 No. 1137438 [Reply] [Last]
I dislike soulsbourne games because the core aspect of the game actually isn't even difficult, it's just tedium that extends the games run time. For example if I die to a boss or mob and the nearest bonfire I last used was 100 meters away I have to trek the distance all the way back to get my experience and/or kill the enemy that last killed me. What did I learn while treking those 100 meters? More importantly what makes running that far actually difficult? Nothing. You are just being punished with time wasting tedium and going against enemies you had no problem dispatching up to that point. I understand wanting to have a game that is difficult but the core aspect of this genre just isn't. I also don't see the point of simulators. Specifically games like the sims. I don't see the appeal of watching your character do things instead of actually doing them.

ultra balanced and optimized multiplayer FPS games, particularly the metagame where you're hardly fucking playing the game but shooting at pixels from different tight wall angles barely ever seeing players, peeking around corners because server lag gives peeker's advantage, etc. To this, I will also add Hero Shooters like Valorant and the 50 million knockoffs that commodify violence with uwu purty colors and superpowers bizarro worlds. Like, what the fuck is actually going on here? I get it. It's video games. CounterStrike makes sense. It's Cops and Robbers. Kill the bad guys. Difusse/Plant the Bomb. Rescue the hostages (rip). But games like Valorant, R6, I just don't fucking understand what the point of it is. Multiracial/multigendered brightly colored faggots running around with stupid customized gun skins flashing magic powers around so they can...shoot at pixels in tight wall angles barely ever seeing players? Futuristic gladiatorial combat where POC murder each other with quippy oneliners and get ready to do it again next round. I just hope the success of the Switch 2 motivates Sony to properly give us a PS Vita successor, or to invest even more on remote play, since it's the only way I can see them making their PS5, and eventually PS6, portable despite being so powerful, maybe we could get a cheaper PS Portal, or have it come bundled with the console, or maybe a telescopic controller for smartphones that actually follows the PS button layout for once, it'd be fun.

There's a thread for F-f-f-friday night, there's another one for games you just finished BUT there is no thread for games we are currently playing.

>>1094286 I've been enjoying it a ton as well. Even decided it was worth buying after reaching room 46 on a pirated version. The best part for me has been following the advice in whichever room suggested keeping a pen and paper handy. I've done more handwriting in the last week than in the last 10 years prior.
I should have named this horse Juan now that I think about it
>>1073300 I'm trying to finish Hokuto no Ken on Famicom without cheat codes... but level 5 can suck my balls, level 3 aswell, any level with parts where a ton of projectiles just fly at you from every angle, and with doors that are easy to get lost in. I much prefer the US port of Hokuto no Ken 2, Fist of the North Star, as it was a lot more fair despite still being difficult. I'm only playing this because I like the IP, and the enemies exploding is really cool, but man... it's filtering me, and it's pissing me off a lot by this point aswell.

These aren't your grandma's massive MMO RPG's, just the fun games you used to hang out on as a kid, the chatrooms, the online spaces, big or small What was your favorite, how obscure was it, and how super duper dead is it now?
