Legally, were the games based on the movies or the books? Like how there were two competing series of Lord of the Rings games because EA had the rights to adapt the movies, but another company had the rights to adapt the books. It's also why people are so baffled at the first Ninja Turtles game on NES. People expect it to be based on the show, but actually both the show and game are both based on the comics, but both very loosely, with some shared ideas that aren't in the comics, but were planned to be used in all the adaptations. Actually the toys were the same situation, which is why the turtle toys don't actually use the same designs as the cartoons. (No pupils, weird scowls, etc).

The age rating thing is stupid, but it is totally a legitimate argument that many of the games in this thread are complete bait and switch situations where they are trying to trick kids into thinking they're getting a different game than they actually are.
