Nah, I think they should go ground zero. I'd rather get something that sounds completely different that something that sounds like a worse version of what we had 40 years ago. And I don't think Japanese can just walk up to a veteran and say "yeah, no, you're not up to standard anymore" (unless there's a series medical condition and someone straight up can't work anymore like Franky in One Piece), but if you say "we're starting fresh", it doesn't seem disrespectful anymore. You can honor Horikowa by, say, incorporating some King Bejita scenes from the anime (I think he straight up never appears in the manga), and casting him there. Overall, if the remake was to happen, I'd like it to be its own thing rather a shadow of the OG/Z.
