Is anyone interested in 3D printing a Sonic Man helmet? I got the model from a FFXV mod and was able to manifold the edges to make it 3D printable but I don't know shit about 3D modeling so you can see the faces when it's scaled up and printed at full size. You see how these particular models come with built-in supports? I think it's because they were made with resin 3d printers in mind. I'll be printing it with regular plastic. I don't need these supports, and they're only gonna get in the way. The worst part is, the system is makinf supports for the supports, which if I print will waste a lot of material and time, and also I wanna rotate the models freely. So, could someone please remove the supports? Or at least trim them so they're tiny?

I didn't notice how small this thing was before printing it. It didn't come out right. It's clearly for resin printers, or better printers than mine. Humble as it is, I've had good results with my printer, but not with models this small. So, I'll make it bigger and try again, but later. Or maybe I'll just buy a resin printer. I wanted to, anyway. Mostly because a friend of mine showed me how he prints in regular plastic the body of sculptures, and with resin he does the heads, hands, and whatever needs extra definition.

I love the body the artist gave her, even though Fio probably doesn't look like this in canon. Them's some nice legs right there. Printing the other leg as I type. I think this'll take me at least two days just to print, and then the treatment with sandpaper to the paint itself and is gonna be another couple of days.

The paint I bought was too low quality so I was getting frustrated because it wasn't working. I wanted to paint the whole thing by the actual colors, but that wasn't working. Since I wanted to see it put together, I just glued these parts in place and bought silver spray paint, and painted the whole thing solid silver. It's not what I originally wanted, but I can always print another one when I have more practice and better materials. The thing is, practice is important, and working on these pieces has taught me lots even though the final result it's not exactly what I had in mind. Still I need to print a couple of cubes, which you can see are missing. The whole thing is pretty darn big. Looks pretty good, I think. What do you think?

Friendly reminder to check your extruder if your prints aren't coming out correct. Mine broke at the same time I started using a new brand of PLA so I wasted about two weeks troubleshooting if the PLA was the problem. I don't know why the hell they wouldn't make the extruder metal right out of the box, having something that's under constant presser be made of plastic is just asking for it to break. Meanwhile, when I decided to take a break from trying to figure out why my main model was being a fuck, I decided to try the "fuzzy" mode Cura offers to see what that does. Grabbed a dog model off Thingiverse or some similar site since that seemed like a suitable subject. I tried running it both with and without. It looks better in-person than in the photos, but it's not great. On the broad areas like the back it works, and helps to hide imperfections, but on the face it just looks wrong. Maybe it'd be better if the model were significantly larger.

OK, I bought graphite powder, Damn, is this thing fine and light! This powder gets everywhere, so I'll be extra careful. So, since I couldn't find conductive paint for electroplating plastic, I'll experiment with this. I'll start by mixing graphite with acrylic paint, and taste the conductivity on a piece of paper.

There's a gamepad called the Alpakka that relies on 3D printing a lot of the parts together, but you'll need to do some soldering too.

Vase mode (the "spiralize outer contours" setting in Cura) is wild. When printing in that mode you can literally tell the slicer to pretend your nozzle is more than double its physical diameter, and it will actually work. As a test I just printed a cube with walls 1mm thick, in a single perimeter, using a 0.4mm nozzle. The setting is only useful for specific types of model, but when it works it works surprisingly well.

I recently bought a 12k resin printer (Saturn) since I wasn't able to get satisfying results casting epoxy keycaps for my custom split keyboard. I'm really surprised with the print quality. These are old pics where I was trying out various ways to fill out the key legends (paint, colored wax, play-doh), turns out the best way is with play-doh, although it can stain the keycaps and you need to sand them a bit.

They're also cheap and easy to use, the cleanup process is a chore though. Depending on the resin you're going to use it might get a little expensive. At most you'll have to sand your models a bit due to supports. Regular 3d printers are also getting very good, they're more expensive and you have to fiddle with them a lot more to get good results, but they're very low-res compared to resin printers.

Maybe I'm retarded, maybe you'll get better results for what you're planning to do, but it's almost a guarantee that you'll have to spend a reasonable amount of money on a good pressure/vacuum chamber.

Buying a 3D printer, what specs matter and what sites compare specs?

If you're a newfag you probably should just get a bambu or prusa since older styles of printer are really annoying to do bed levelling on and upgrading them costs as much as one of them. If you just need a vaguely dildo shaped model and don't care about print quality tearing up your asshole then an elegoo neptune can get you there for cheaper. Between prusa and bambu, the former is more of a workhorse with repairability in mind while the latter has lots of non-replacable parts and chink firmware but a better print finish, someone said it often has a matte texture instead of smooth. For resin, elegoo's newer saturn if you want to print big or newer mars if you want to print small, and resolution scales with screen size so 12k on a small screen is better than 12k on a large one. Watch some video reviews probably.

Oh and at this point some kind of heater for the resin vat is considered a premium feature, since most people put it in a garage and air heating is inconsistent when cold.

Since this thread I full of people who.may know, I'll ask. I'm asking for a friend, because he asked me and I told him I'd look into it. He wants a resin printer, but I've heard that they are more frustrating than satisfying. I've heard that, while the results are nice when they come out well, many times they just don't come out well. Like, if you're going to print using resin, 60% of the prints are gonna end up in the trash and that's a fact you have to just accept, and 40% come out well, so resin enthusiasts live for that 40% Is that really true? Could it be that the idea that a large percentage of resin prints go come out wrong comes from another era, when resin printers on the consumer market were not perfected? And if the answer is that today resin printers are more efficient and produce a higher percentage of good prints, which is the model you would recommend?
