>first print: the two interlocking parts fit perfectly, but a non-printed part I had to buy is slightly out of spec and doesn't fit
>tweak the design to accommodate it, and make a few other adjustments to strengthen some areas that turned out too weak
>second print: I'm a fucking idiot and forgot to make sure each side's changes lined up with the other side
>also there's some minor imperfections, so I spend a couple hours calibrating the printer until all my tests come out perfect
>third print: everything is fucked, the calibration that worked for the tests is suddenly wildly wrong
>all my holes are printer smaller than they used to be so nothing fits, and the nozzle is gouging into the layers it just put down every time it traverses to a new area of the print, leaving massive scars
>test prints still show it working so I basically have to guess my way through yet more calibration
>also tried reverting to the first print's settings, but that fourth attempt was so awful I stopped it after the first layer and went back to tweaking the newer settings
>fifth print: no longer leaving huge gouges and most of the holes work, but still some marks, and it's an incredibly tight fit since everything is still too big, and for some spaces I have to hack it wider with a knife
150g of filament later and the very first attempt remains the best. Fuck.
