I'm very skeptical of this theory. There are other plausible motives, not to mention the possibility for false-flag.

We don't rip boards away from people unless it's obvious they're trying to sabotage a community, and even then there's a high bar. We don't like to interfere with how board owners do things.
However, the BO reached out and asked what they can do to please people. If a change in BO would help, I can ask them if they'd be amenable to handing the board over. I know several FFXIV players who have been regulars on this site for years and are not involved in /xivg/ politics, and I'd be happy to vouch for any of them. Of course that is contingent on the currnet BO being willing to step down.
There's also the possibility to grab another board URI that isn't taken and move there.

That does seem to be the case. There would be a benefit to having a dedicated board, in that instead of having a single-topic general there could be several threads with different topics. A savage thread, a glam thread, people looking for parties. You guys generate a lot of activity and probably could fill an entire board.
To reiterate, the administration isn't going to tell anyone to go anywhere, or to use any board, or to tell board owners how to run their boards. I just dropped by because I wanted to get an understanding of the situation and try to find a solution that makes everyone happy.
