Yesterday I played for the first few hours, and so far it feels very much like a game whose gameplay is reminiscent of games from the early 2000s. The levels are very linear, with exactly one path, occasionally featuring a few short detours where secrets can be found. There is a lot of jumping and fighting, the latter of course taking place in small arenas against a manageable number of enemies. The skill-based sections are not very challenging so far; you probably have to make an effort to fail in any way. This probably sounds more negative than I actually feel, because I find such a clear, straightforward action platformer to be a real treat in times of huge, open worlds.
Moreover, the game looks really nice and offers a great setting. The atmosphere of the southern, swampy America is captured wonderfully, and the English voice acting and beautiful soundtrack fit excellently with the visuals. Everything is colorful and imaginative, and the character design is very well done. This stop-motion style bothers me less than I expected; it rounds everything off nicely in my opinion and fits the quirky setting. The game is supposed to last around ten hours, and if there isn’t much more gameplay, that’s probably a good length before it starts to get boring. I’m definitely motivated to keep playing because of the setting and the characters
