Speedrunning Anonymous 04/18/2025 (Fri) 14:31:49 Id: b7067b No. 1131853
Do you speedrun games? Are you hyped about SGDQ 2025 (starts july 6th)? Did Karl Jobst deserve to lose his trial against Billy Mitchell? (He released an 'apology' video recently https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1XBqeAQ3nI )
>>1131853 >Did Karl Jobst deserve to lose his trial against Billy Mitchell? Yes. This isn't an endorsement of Billy, I just really don't like Karl Jobst.
>>1131853 Karl Jobber lied so yes, Billy is still a cheater though
I've only tried to push for times in Deadcore years ago. But all of the in-game leaderboards are filled with hacked times.
>>1131853 >Do you speedrun games? I will, after my post-op surgery.
HELLO YOU ABSOLUTE LEGENDS! I LOST
>>1131853 I mostly just watch Summoning Salt and Bismuth videos about the history of categories. That and technical breakdowns of runs or glitches. It’s peak comedy that after losing and settling every lawsuit, Billy’s first win has the judge call him a known cheater.
>>1131853 >Do you speedrun games? I did very casually for a little while, but not for many years now (before speedrun.com was a thing). I'd like to do it again but I'm busy. >Are you hyped about SGDQ 2025 (starts july 6th)? No, I promised myself I wouldn't watch GDQ or anything GDQ adjacent ever again years ago. I watch other marathons though. >Did Karl Jobst deserve to lose his trial against Billy Mitchell? Don't know, don't care.
Speedrunning is just too autistic, it ruins the game for the person playing it. And honestly it just doesn't seem to be good for you based on how all these guys turn out. Slowrunning should be promoted instead, just enjoy the game and put your autism to work on something else.
>>1131853 >Do you speedrun games? Yep, kind of weened off of it since too much of that isn't good for your mental health but it's still nice every so often. >Are you hyped about SGDQ 2025 (starts july 6th)? Not at all, even watching to make fun of it is more depressing than anything else so fuck that and I'm not about to just start hatewatching it. >Did Karl Jobst deserve to lose his trial against Billy Mitchell? Not really he's a dumb autismo that didn't realize the real world isn't the internet, hopefully he manages but considering YT paypigs are the most gullible retards around I think he'll be fine, he's even got talent at actually making videos about speedrunning, no reason he can't just print enough money to pay and recover just fine.

>>1131853 >Do you speedrun? I used to, but I lost interest in the community, which was one of the reasons I got into it to begin with. >SGDQ I'll watch it if I'm free and there's a thread to shitpost in. I'm more interested in ESA returning this summer. >Jobst is a retard, but so is Billy. They deserve each other.
>>1132834 Post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy; autism causes troonism and an interest speedrunning.
>>1131853 His apology video is correct. He never directly said the lawsuit was about cheating. Everyone assumed it was about cheating because that's what Billy is known for. >>1133176 Yeah. Can't be fun to play the same game 1000 runs in a row for months on end. >>1133351 >The real world isn't the internet Retarded cheaters will throw hundreds of thousands of dollars suing people to hide the fact he cheated. This makes Billy look even worse. You don't have to like Karl.

I skipped AGDQ this year. How cringe was it?
>>1131853 I don't know who any of these people are but >mask >gloves >filthy fucking socks these people's priorities are something else
I speedrun in the frame of getting speedrun cheevos if I end up really liking a game. REmake 2, Hollow Knight and Chroma Zero are the only times I've done it, I may do it for secrets of grindea depending on how I feel about the game once I'm done with it and the arcade mode. >>1132813 Cyber Hook has country specific leaderboards and I think I topped the boards(which to be fair had like two other players) for 90% of the levels for Egypt.
>>1131853 >Did Karl Jobst deserve to lose his trial against Billy Mitchell? He deserved to be hated for lying about what the lawsuit was about and ignoring the fact the Apollo Legend blamed friends of his for his suicide. I still believe Billy at least partly is to blame for the suicide

>>1135820 I remember very little of it. The good highlights were >Chunithm Luminous Plus >Super Mario Bros. (race) >Crazy Taxi (with live band) The cringe highlights were >Elden Ring >GTA: VC >Crazy Taxi (with live band)
>>1135745 >You don't have to like Karl. I don't particularly have strong opinions about him but the fact is he played with fire when antagonizing publicly and repeatedly a professional asshole with litigious tendencies. >This makes Billy look even worse. You're on an imageboard of all people you should know feeding a troll any kind of attention is basically never gonna end up well
I like the idea of speedrunning, setting myself a new challenge to a game I love so I can get more out of it. I just haven't done it.
>>1137079 Picking a game you love is the most important part
>>1131853 Stopped watching after every guy turned into a troon
>>1131853 >Do you speedrun games? I did for a bit when I was younger. Never did anything worth anyone time. >Are you hyped about SGDQ 2025 (starts july 6th)? No. Ever since they pulled out in 2022 over lies. I was a donator and watch them abandoned the place I was from. >Did Karl Jobst deserve to lose his trial against Billy Mitchell? 100% if he wasn't lying about what the case was about and just pulled out when he had multiple chances to do so. Billy gave him outs to take. Billy is a cheater for sure but he didn't cause anyone's death which is a huge accusation.
>>1131853 I wish speedrunning hadn't become so much about the "community" and its personalities. Back in the SDA days, while it's true there were some well-known runners, at the end of the day the focus was almost always on the runs. Then AGDQ, streaming, and social media in general happened, and now you got all this gay shit I couldn't care less about when I just wanna watch somebody skillfully destroy a game. Even there, of course, I have to be more picky these days, as many runs (especially in Any% categories) end up skipping over way too much of the game, culminating in ridiculous shit like using ACE to warp to the end credits just minutes after starting the game. The most entertaining runs, therefore, now tend to be in the 100%, Warpless, or No Major Skips categories, depending on the game.
Anyone have that list of all upcoming speedrun events?
>>1136081 Billy literally reached out to him and asked him to apologize to drop the lawsuit because he knew that the dude couldn't cough up that million, apollo still 41%'d himself because his distroon friends pushed him into doing so, dude was literally in one of those 4chan tranny cults that doxx you if you don't obey.
>>1139283 Kinda happened across the gaming landscape didn't it? Both the eceleb/"community" not inherently bad unless the community is a discord/reddit group shit and the hyper optimization that kills the games. >>1136081 >>1139701 >Apollo Legend blamed friends of his for his suicide. >his distroon friends pushed him into doing so, dude was literally in one of those 4chan tranny cults First I'm hearing of this and I remember watching his suicide note video years back.
>>1140910 If by hyper optimization, you mean having to use tricks and glitches so esoteric they require reading through a page-long technical explanation on how and why it works, then yeah, shit sucks. Most of the worst offenders for this kind of thing tend to be in Any% runs, at least, which, as I said, are the runs I usually avoid now unless the game lacks such major game-breaking tricks.
>>1131853 Chibi do anything funny recently? Haven't kept up with him in a while. Last I heard he was moving to Nippon
>>1131853 >Do you speedrun games? I'm not a tranny, so no
(32.05 KB 177x326 1738999039386841.png)

>>1131853 Caveman still looks like a chill guy to hang with. Chibi still looks like a huge fag.
Anybody read the ersatz article about the judge in Billy vs Karl? It's quite the ride.
>Are you hyped about SGDQ 2025 (starts july 6th)? Haven't really been interested in a GDQ since the one before 8chan got shut down. The fun was 95% in the shitposting. I don't know if I want to mark it in my calendar, but maybe. It's hard to articulate how much I hate the soulless corpo trash these things have become. I remember the first couple years. Nitrodon getting pissy at the room while he was running Cave Story or something, because he felt like people weren't interested. And the fat dork who did FF4 at the end of one marathon, crying as he gave a closing speech because it meant a lot to him (as it probably did to a lot of these guys) to meet his internet friends face to face. It was extremely cringe, yet better than what it became. >Do you speedrun games? Tetris Attack. I don't think I'm anywhere near the WR anymore; I just try to stay sharp because it's fun. >>1133176 Very true. It's funny, though— of the handful of speedrunners I've ever watched, the unhappy ones have been failed normies who gravitate to speedrunning as a surrogate for their lack of success in other areas. I was friends with a guy on twitch back around 2012 who speedran Castlevania and such. Talented musician. Over time he increasingly got drunk on stream, raged on failed attempts, ranted about libertarianism and his shit job, then disappeared for awhile and came back wearing a dress. Disappeared permanently soon after. Never send a normie to do a sperg's job, I guess.

>>1133176 I personally tend to play my favorite game randomized sure I learned a few speed tricks and skips and occasionally timed myself to see how fast I can beat the game but since it's a randomizer it never gets dull to me and always fun to play. I'm not sure if I could ever get myself to do an actual speedrun of the game though.
>>1141725 >Chibi do anything funny recently? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cRJMc1-5fE >>1144113 gdqs have a lot of funny moments still, if you don't care about the speedrunning component to them then the cringe moments are worth it
>>1146770 Good lord that video. No matter how bad I think I have it at least I'll never be that guy.
>>1143414 How dare you not link that absolute cinema of a novel >https://perfectpacman.com/2025/04/16/judge-ken-barlow/
>>1131853 I don't usually give a fuck about speedrunning but this shit is pretty cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGgzxe-MZWw
