Final Fantasy XIII is worth revisiting. 21st century ludo kino, with truly splendorous sight/sound synthesis. Flawed and deep characters, exceptional vocal performances as well as one of the greatest soundtracks in video games. An ATB based combat system that is perhaps the mainline peak for high speed, turn based influenced action. Paradigm Shift is a fantastic modern spin on Job switching on the fly. The best Stagger system in Final Fantasy that accompanies juggle launches of massive enemies and up to 999% damage modifier. Incredible summon designs and animations that are thematically tied to each of the characters. There are so many wonderful things about this truly special game!

It's just too bad it wasn't a party based RPG, the style and look and feel of a good chunk of the game is great. But it's weighed down by way too much padding and extremely dull gameplay design. Combat is seriously fun for a few hours, but it can't carry you through a 60 hour RPG. It needed that party management, character switching and the proper FF blue window elements in order for it to all come together and truly work.

Can we agree that 7Rs are good? Yes I think they missed on a few things but the games still 95% faithful to the original and they improved everything from the gameplay to the characters. IMO if padding is your problem, I don't get why you'd hate it. All remakes are padded to a certain degree, you might as well not to touch any vidya remakes other than BDSP (if you like that thing).
