Guild Wars 1 Anonymous 04/16/2025 (Wed) 21:46:25 Id: 2f935d No. 1102727
It's Guild Wars 1's 20th anniversary and the devs dropped the first content update in years just yesterday. Has anyone here been playing? There's also been some community event going on encouraging people to group up together and go through the base came campaign (Prophecies) in the span of a month, focusing on a few different areas every week. https://returntogw1.com/ As someone who started playing very late during its lifespan, I don't think I've ever seen the game so alive. it's nice to be able to find randos to queue for missions with. We could organize something if anyone here's interested in playing through it again.

I'm in Asia and the game is fucking unplayable due to lag. What the fuck?
>>1128018 I'm in mongolian mountains and that's just life bro
I never played this. Does Trilogy+Eye of the North on Steam get me everything thats required to play? I'm aware of the anniversary bundle but I'd prefer to have this bound to steam.
>>1102727 > Has anyone here been playing? I should play Guild Wars factions again. I miss this game so much. Wasn't it added to Steam?
>>1102727 Guild Wars was my first MMO, hell maybe my first PC game, good times. Though I always wondered, why couldn't we jump in it? I know they added that ability in 2. Was the engine just not able to do it?

>>1135923 >>1135983 Just get the Masterpiece Collection from the GW1 store if you're interested, it's on sale for under 10 bucks and it gives Trilogy, EoTN and the bonus missions pack so you basically get all story content. It's not on Steam though sadly.
>>1135923 >I'm aware of the anniversary bundle Oh nevermind, I can't read. Not sure why but they never brought the whole thing on Steam for some reason.

based game i got gwamm
>>1136112 is there any benefit to even having guild wars 1 on steam at all?
>>1136130 yeah Im just buying the whole GW store bundle fuck it. >>1136385 nah just my autism
>>1136385 If you use Linux and/or Steam Deck it helps to launch the game without needing to fuck around with wine.
Guild wars
>>1136393 >>1136449 I might get a Steam Deck in the future and/or move from Windows to Linux fulltime on the Desktop so that's pretty tempting. Are these bonuses massive in terms of impact or are they merely nice things to have as extra?
This will be the first anniversary celebration I actually remembered to play for, I know everybody agrees that the Necro Scythe is the essential weapon to get, but which ones do I need after that? I only have 1 character that's unlocked all the missions in all the campaigns, everybody else just has either 1 campaign worth of missions or none unlocked so it's not easy for me to just collect all of them. Realistically I'm looking at 3-4, maybe 5 weapons if I push it.
>>1136507 The latter, the game isn't massively p2w but they did add some gay shit like stash tabs and mercenary heroes post launch. If you post your ingame name I can invite you to a dead 8chan guild with a maxed out guild hall.

>>1136228 How many hours does that take on average? Never been much of a completionist but I'd like to try and get it one day.
>>1136537 I'll probably get it on Steam then because I'm a faggot like that and was going to play the game singleplayer/co-op with a friend for nostalgia although funnily enough I never interacted with the Guild part of Guild Wars when I played it as a kid. Is it important to join Guilds?
>>1136507 The bonus items are only useful if you're making a pre-Searing only character or trying to get the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title, but for those cases the bonus Fire Imp is pretty much essential.
>>1136564 I think roughly between 600-800 hours, at an average pace. Account based titles speed it up if going for multiple chars.
>>1136569 >Is it important to join Guilds? Not really unless you want a bigger group of humans to LFG for on hard dungeon content. Despite how cracked out NPC Heroes are for general PvE, they still struggle on the hardest endgame content.
>>1136596 I'll look into Guilds a bit then but probably not worry too much about it until I reach the endgame parts, I was thinking of going into the game as a singleplayer/co-op experience for the most part going through the story at a chill pace (the 20th anniversary community event is too fast paced for me lol).
>>1136569 It allows access to a 8v8 pvp gamemode and an outpost with a bunch of vendor npcs but other than that it's what >>1136596 said
>>1136449 >>1136507 you shouldnt need wine for this. you can add these types of launchers as a third party game to steam and launch it through that. I havent tried GW1 with it but all other types of games work like this.
I bought it and launched it as a mnk. All the npcs were teleporting around. A Google search told me despite supporting refresh rates above 60hz, if you launch the game above that it will fuck with animations and feelings of latency until you reboot the game. I almost miss old game problems
The female characters are so fucking sexy it's insane, triggering maximum AGP fuck

>>1135923 I would recommend buying the complete edition from the official store instead, it's cheaper even when not on sale and comes with more stuff in it, I just checked and its on sale right now for £7.

I forgot how much this game feels like you're going on an actual adventure. I just got to Lion's Arch and just running around Kryta to get my armor pieces has been an adventure in and of itself.
>>1147221 You're not wrong about that. That female elementalist dance, man...

>>1147248 Talking of the cash shop, this is the first time character slots and xunlai storage panes have gone on sale right? >>1147493 How is Henchman only prophecies going, why didn't you use mercenary heroes? Claude is dogshit btw, his only good skill is blood ritual
>>1147635 >why didn't you use mercenary heroes? I barely know how that works. I made a few once I got to LA but I have no skills to equip them with. I assume I have to unlock them on my own characters first, or can I just buy them at any skill trainer?
how many of you guys main pre-searing?
>>1147879 Just to be clear I'm talking about Mercenary Heroes which are player character heroes that you register as heroes to use on other characters not regular heroes, not Koss, Gwen, Olias, MOX, Odgen, etc. which the earliest point is Lions Arch. You should get Olias for a minion master asap to make your life easier, he's Krytan so it's lore friendly >Lions Arch My understanding is you could have traveled to the great temple of balthazaar (pvp island) and unlocked them from the guy as soon as you left pre-searing and arrived in post-searing Ascalon >but I have no skills to equip them with. I assume I have to unlock them on my own characters first, or can I just buy them at any skill trainer? Those are kind of the same thing but yes when you unlock skills for your character it will also unlock it on your account for the heroes to use forever, might be very expensive for a new player to just straight up buy skills for hero purposes when you will probably want that money for armor materials and your own skills. You can also unlock skills with balthazaar faction by playing pvp or buying the skill unlock packs from the cash store. This might be a false memory but you should be able to unlock some basic skills to begin with by making a pvp character, there may be a couple quests for skill unlocks that you should do, you don't have to keep them just make the pvp character, the game will pop up with "unlocked skill deathly swarm, frenzy, dual shot, etc for your account+heroes, delete and make a new profession and repeat until you've done every profession. Factions and Nightfall have way faster and streamlined tutorial zones too so you could play 5 minutes of factions/nightfall and unlock a bunch of monk/necro/mesmer skills for your heroes like power drain, glyph of lesser energy, dunno what skills you feel you're missing or which heroes you have currently
>>1148672 I am also referring to Mercenary Heroes, yeah. I'm currently on my first character on a completely fresh account, because buying the complete edition on sale was cheaper than actually buying the few packs I was missing on my old account. As soon as I got to LA I made a bunch of pvp only characters and registered them, but I still had zero skills to equip them with, so it probably doesn't unlock them on your account that way. I guess I'll have to make a couple pve characters first just to unlock the basic spells and stuff.
>>1151268 Unlocking heroes should unlock the skills on their bar, maybe I confused that with pvp chars. There's hero trainers too but they're only in nightfall iirc Once you ascend you can swap your secondary profession and go back and do all the profession quests for the other classes from previous areas, like the ones in yaks bend, that's what I did back in the day https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_of_skill_acquisition_quests But what I would do is make throwaway characters in nightfall, do the primary training quest for necro, mesmer, monk, paragon, warrior as NF is the quickest and most streamlined and the starting skills are the best generally and then delete and re-roll >Watch Yourself >Animate Bone Minions >Anthem of flame >Monk comes with Orison of Healing, hex removal, condition removal and a reusable res spell from a single quest Shing Jea has better skill quests but you'll have to put way more time in to reach them, it might be worth just doing Necro for bone fiends, enfeebling blood and both bone minions and death nova as those are fucking great skills and will last to the end game

cleared urgoz last night for an island bro
>>1151763 If you have cash the actual fastest way to unlock them is to buy the skill unlock packs, it's about $20 for all of them right now. It will save a lot of in-game currency over time, every single skill ends up costing 1 plat to obtain.
>>1102727 What new content did they drop?
>>1159086 Some new weapon mods that give you 5 in a primary attribute even if it's not your profession's attribute, like a W/A can use daggers that give him 5 Expertise, or Me/Rt can get 5 Energy Storage. Also a bunch of pre-order exclusive shit was seeded into the drop tables so you can obtain them now. Hound of Balthazar is a free giveaway during the event too.
>>1159400 Oh shidd that's kinda cool.
