I think it's pretty fun, but it's got several sticking points. Unlike most metroidvanias, you unlock navigational tools from leveling up. Also unlike most metroidvanias, in order to level up, you have to use up a key item (bones) at your home base, which necessitates returning there. You can do that at any save point you find, but the real problem is getting back to where you were. There are boatgirls who let you fast travel between points where you've found them, but they tend to be in some inconvenient spots. The subweapon system is fun and can get absurdly OP, but you'll end up with a lot of trash items and getting rid of them to make inventory space can be a pain because you have to do it 1 at a time.
The actual gameplay itself is solid and fun, though. Inti is good at the actual platforming part of their action platformers imo. Shotgun jumping is satisfying and fun, and the whip girl can just do tons of damage by just staggering and doing the first hit of her combo again and again and again.
I think the game is kind of unfinished. There's an arena area with nothing to do in it but visit a vendor. Last I played the online multiplayer hadn't even been implemented yet, and the npc that shows up in your base has all of its options greyed out.
