/hsg/ Hearthstone thread Anonymous 04/15/2025 (Tue) 20:44:59 Id: acd1cf No. 1091387

I didn't actually expect anybody here to still be playing. Battlegrounds is fun for what it is.
>>1091528 General was barely alive back on 4chan and the game has been bleeding players for years so I don't expect this thread to be very active
>>1091528 >>1091551 I still play every now and then. The game is just such bullshit nowadays and the playerbase loves eating shit and stating that metas "are great" despite broken cards and decks making the whole meta lopsided every single patch. Just play a card based on drawing random cards and spin the wheel, that's precisely what the game designers want it to be anyways.
>>1095813 I mostly stay with battlegrounds for this reason, Wild/Standard is actively trying to be more like Yugioh while being worse than it. This is why Yugioh has soured heavily in recent years in popularity. Bazaar might be a good replacement, I'm not sure exactly on it yet due to the paid subscription model they are using. The game is stuck in a rock and a hard place after they revealed DH, where they actively had to scale back DK with the rune modifiers to limit them so a DH situation wouldn't happen again. It's mostly Blizzard is trying to maintain what already exists and to funnel more money into China. Chinese wild players outmatch any western players 2 to 1.
>>1095813 Last two years' metas were so fucking shit the current one seems like a fun ride in comparison. But yeah most of the decks are combo bullshit dealing a huge burst of damage or an unanswerable board and whoever does it first wins. >>1096598 DK was a mistake. Runes are so fucking stupid, like what's the point? Having less class cards than other classes because you have to obey the runes for some reason?
>>1098133 I like that DK has different types, which allows for more control cards to not be abused by aggro. But only 2 runes are every good, which are blood and green/corpse. Frost runes are mostly useless. I only think they exist due to how WoW gameplay works for DKs. I think it's been a year since any pure frost DK card were made
>>1091528 ladder and arena are miserable experiences. every play feels bad from both players. BG at least has to me a layer of stupid silly bullshit that you just throw your hands into the air and say whatever. Maybe it's the turn timer or meme additions like buddies or anomalies. That and there isn't a reason to push for high mmr. I like bullshitting with meme builds and concede right away if I don't get the right heroes offered or it's a lame set of tribes / anomaly
Sadly this is a dead game. Their future plans include an arena overhaul and pets. That's it. Arena is already a worthless game mode that nobody plays and cosmetics are irrelevant when the base game experience is so unfun.
>>1129928 but bro hearthstone is the most watched digital card game in streaming! epic trollden moment! cemented for the next decade!
>>1129928 >>1106429 Arena died when it no longer became the go to mode for F2Ps due to tavern pass being well balanced. The new ideas for the Arena sound like shit. The only reason it was popular was due to gold farming, when that was taken away only the people really into the mod stayed, and the streamers left.
>>1130659 I remember Kripparrian mainly streaming arena before moving to battlegrounds. And now he's playing the bazaar. What a disgrace this game has turned into.
>>1131462 >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf-Q9RNDFVk He was getting streamsnipped in Arena for years. Battlegrounds was better when Arena was in decline. He got bored and left.
>>1130659 >The only reason it was popular was due to gold farming eh, i disagree. pretty sure you needed to go 7+ wins each run for it to be profitable and most people weren't that good at it. it was a different experience than constructed and i think people liked it because of that. i personally really enjoyed arena because of the unpredictability of it, you never knew if, say, a mage had like 3 flamestrikes in his deck. the drafts were also very interesting for me. i still run old trump arena vids in the background often. i tried getting back in recently and went 0:3 like 3 times. too many new cards and most of them do all the things at once and minions have to be killed like 2 times. or maybe i'm just getting old.
>>1132911 >it was a different experience than constructed and i think people liked it because of that. I suppose so, though I never enjoyed it. I tried my best to make myself like it, but it felt disappointing every time, and I was paying for the disappointment too. It felt like a waste of gold. I never cared about arena streams either. >too many new cards and most of them do all the things at once and minions have to be killed like 2 times. or maybe i'm just getting old. This is literally the nu-HS experience I experienced too. I quit the game but I start it up sometimes to check out what it's like, and it's in an abysmal state. The only new thing that got me back into the game temporarily was Classic mode. I really loved it, but then they removed that too.
>>1133175 >Classic mode oh man, i'm kicking myself for missing that one... i don't really understand why did they remove it. was it reducing their profits b/c that many people were playing with old cards instead of spending moolah on new expansions? i doubt that. they didn't want to split the playerbase? they were scared it would "confuse" new players to have so many modes?
>>1133325 It was full of bots, novelty wore off after a few months and nobody was playing. They replaced it with Twist but oh boy was that a disaster (entirelty their fault too). The first Twist season had a whole bunch of sets you can mostly ignore because it also contained the dreaded Stormind set, so the meta was fucked. Then they put more sensible sets in the rotation, but they also added a new "caverns of time" mini-set and buffed some old cards so the meta was fucked once again and they refused to nerf their special snowflake new cards the meta now revolved around. We're in 6 months and the meta has been mostly unplayable this whole time. Few people bothered with it a few days after they changed it to some other cancer. Then they do some weird shit like make it special heroes with pre-set decks, but it's dumb because then everybody chooses the most busted heroes and it's the same thing each match. After that they give up and close it for like 6 months. Yeah literally, can't play it for 6 months because they can't just have a normal season with a bunch of random sets I guess. But then, the grand return! What do they do? They put the season with the caverns of time set again. I shit you not. And today it's closed again I think, or the same shit I dunno, I just play a bit of standard. It's incredible how they have this potentially very enjoyable game but they do everything to make it unfun. Remember Duels? That was too fun, so they removed it. I can't wait to see how they ruin arena somehow.
>>1133325 I started playing HS during TGT, so I never experienced classic back in its heyday, but classic mode reminded me of why I liked HS. Basic cards are really fun an soulful. I could finally playa the Handlock I always wanted and even reach legend with (even if it was a lot easier with a lot less competition). >i don't really understand why did they remove it Most people who would have been interested in playing it had already quit the game for good. There were very few players. It also had bots playing zoolock all day. >they were scared it would "confuse" new players to have so many modes? I'm sure this is part of it. The post-Brode dev team changed a bunch of classic cards, and it wasn't straightforward why there is the normal Jaraxxus and a buffed Jaraxxus. I don't even know if they even reintroduced Rag and the rest to Classic packs. New players were used to a completely different game. For example, nu-Hearthstone no longer has a control play style, it's just spamming shit the generate random shit that come back to life again. You fill the board, he clears the board, he fills the board, you clear the board, that's it. >was it reducing their profits b/c that many people were playing with old cards instead of spending moolah on new expansions? i doubt that. This would have been an issue if Classic mode ever got popular, but it never did. I have all useful Classic cards, so I'd never have to buy packs again, so ultimately it wasn't in their interest for it to get popular, but it's not like there was a chance of that happening. tl'dr it was a gimmick for oldfags who no longer even played the game.
>>1133325 Classic mode was dead, so they removed it for twist which became even more dead. People bot in wild all the time, half of it is fun decks and the rest is bots
>>1133175 My main issue with arena are the extremely uneven decks the players are given and no amount of skill can compensate for that.
Zarimi priest is genuinely the most degenerate shit I've seen in a long while. Now they run at least 6 board clears. Just extremely unfun, frustrating and gay to play against.
>>1145320 And it is a no skill deck too, everything depends on your draws and nothing else.
>>1145476 Don't know which deck would even succeed, really. Either extreme control DK to absorb the OTK or extreme aggro that curves out well.
>>1145320 That's standard for you
