The Hundred Line -Last Defence Academy- Anonymous 04/15/2025 (Tue) 16:55:41 Id: 8dc8dc No. 1090075
8 days until release. You did preorder, right? You wouldn't want Kodaka to do something drastic.

Not buying this because of the pozzed localization with the "egg" line. Might pirate if I'm bored enough.

Seems like HL will release much earlier on the Switch. A little annoying...
I fucking hate that this game exists. A worse fire emblem, another pointless not!Danganronpa game with similar plotlines when he could focus on Master Detective Archives or better yet, make another Danganronpa game. Fangames like the Another Duology and the upcoming Eden Garden, Kill/Cure or even indies like Kumitantei entertain me much more.
My hype level started off as Must Buy and it went progressively downhill the more got released about the game until the lackluster demo dropped it to Pirate Unless Proven Otherwise. I bought Rain Code sight unseen on release and was happy — even though it was downgrade from Danganronpa it was still good in its own ways; the demo makes it look worse in basically EVERY way. If the story turns out to be great then I’ll buy it and start over but based on that demo I can’t justify paying money for it. I fear the reason why Kodaka has been doomposting is because he KNOWS it’s a bad game.
(159.79 KB 2048x2048 Go03O22aoAEdMcf.jpg)

>>1135771 >the lackluster demo dropped it to Pirate Unless Proven Otherwise What didn't you like about it? I'll admit the gameplay was a little too simple for me but I enjoyed it and trailers show it getting way more complicated. I'd argue that just the demo is a cut above Rain Code but that's just me. >Kodaka has been doomposting is because he KNOWS it’s a bad game He's been begging a lot because so much is riding on this shit but yeah it's retarded. Word of mouth and streamers will help this game sell. I don't trust the opinion of journos but so far this game has received nothing but positive reviews
>>1135771 if you liked rain code your standards are so low there no way you'll dislike this game.
I'm heavily looking forward to this game. I'm pirating the XCI once it leaks so I can take better screenshots than my switch.

>>1139465 >about to complain about no digital release in chinese >check eshop prices >it's up now Fugg I've already bought it on Steam.
the GAMEPLAY looks absolutely ASS. The scale of everything is too small (1-3 damage every time seriously?) it doesn't feel good to play, Maybe the story is good and you can treat it as a VN? naaaaah it's a spike chunsoft game so the translation is gonna be super burgerized trannylation, so I won't touch that shit.
>>1139899 >Fugg I've already bought it on Steam You can still refund it, no? >>1140002 >The scale of everything is too small It progressively gets bigger but I get what you mean. I knew the demo like the back of my hand by my 2nd playthrough; too easy and seems to be designed for casuals first >it's a spike chunsoft game No
>>1140002 >The scale of everything is too small I'm pretty sure the scale will increase as the game progresses. Like for example when the game starts out with only 4 fighters, the battlefield is very small and limited. But in clips where you have the entire cast to play with at once the battlefield is huge and you have more ways to approach the fights.
>>1140048 >You can still refund it, no? Yeah but now I have to debate between which version to get again. I am not a very decisive man.

3rd Plebbit Famitsu translation. Kodaka confirmed a route where everyone lives. There's also thoughts for a sequel, so Hundred Line 2: Goodbye Despair will be real... https://reddit.adminforge.de/r/LastDefenseAcademy/comments/1k2fqw3/writing_team_interview_from_famitsu_issue_1895/ >>1140377 There's like one actually pozzed line in the demo but people are saying the localization is good in the full game. We'll see
I cant stand this kind of burgerization
>>1141396 >There's also thoughts for a sequel cart before horse >the localization is good ok Anny (TL note: anon-kun)
>>1141396 >There's also thoughts for a sequel, so Hundred Line 2: Goodbye Despair will be real... Like I said back on 4chan, this game will get at least 2 sequels for sure.
>>1141396 >The answer to the question of "what is the battle functionality of sacrificing your friends in THL?" is one that spent a lot of time in the oven. I believe that when you reach the ending, you'll come out of it feeling that this mechanic made the narrative far more immersive. Sounds like you're meant to be using those death skills but I'm still curious if killing your pawns nilly willy will affect choices/endings. >There is one stand-out character among the enemy Commanders and Oyama was excitedly imagining a story where this one wins. Hmmmmmm
>>1141396 >Sequel planned already
(191.77 KB 1200x1400 GozlOQqbcAANzeV.jpg)

>>1141422 >TL note: anon-kun Ermm she acktually says Ta-kun in the original, not Takumi-kun, so the nickname is appropriately localized considering it's a childhood nickname >>1141433 I like the idea of every character getting a VN about their past like Hiruko. I feel the more eccentric types like Yugamu and Kyoshika would benefit the most >>1141484 >killing your pawns nilly willy will affect choices/endings I very much believe it well. He did say that the mechanic makes the narrative "far more immersive" after all
>>1141540 or just write Takkun? I'll never understand why ironic weebs westoids and especially danganfags are so allergic towards japaneseness in japanese-made products despite (allegedly) being a fan. Most lines in this game seem to be unvoiced so there's no way to confirm the faithfulness of the TL by playing it in EN. but removal of honorifics, americanization of speech quirks and usage of tranny jargons are pretty much huge red flags already. Maybe if this game turns out to be actually good, I'd play it in JP, but so far the premise is meh, gameplay combat is meh and the 100 endings gimmick sounds like a tedious grind.
>>1141540 >VN Isn't it just a book? But yeah it'd be nice to have more background stuff or even what-ifs. >>1141629 If it matters to you (it doesn't) the Chinese version is similar to Takky or whatever the EN nickname is. His name is 拓海, CN goes with 阿拓 (like a-ta or a-taku). "A" is commonly used in nicknames in actual Chinese, and if they were to use a more "faithful" version of Takkun it would be 拓君, which I'm sure you can read in nip because it's also what Chinese weeaboos like to convert -kun into. So in this case every other localization has the same issue of being "unfaithful" because they're translated for native speakers instead of weebs, and I'm sure the eventual yuro and gook localizations will also have something similar.
>>1141484 >allergic towards japaneseness in japanese-made products I'm not? I'd honestly prefer if they used honorifics but they aren't, so Takky is the best choice considering their decision. I don't necessarily agree with it. You're starting to sound like a certain bad-faith poster from 4/v/ >>1141734 >Isn't it just a book? Oh, it might be actually. It says "digital novel", but I've read many people saying it's a VN. And that tidbit about the CN version is interesting, localization is very nuanced. I recently read a dumblr post breaking down how hard it is to localize Yugamu's speech because he constantly replaces や (ya) with 殺 (ya) which means to kill, so in English you'd need to find killing puns for whatever he says or something.

(865.14 KB 1920x1080 ss_2583f06a0715569f5506be6a4153b.jpg)

(245.55 KB 1280x720 unnamed-2.jpg)

actually done with the demo >humanity went almost extinct because of alien invasion >survivors are living in a shelter city, memory-wiped and oblivious about everything >kids from the city are chosen to fight against aliens in secret >aliens are actually humanoid and probably close to humans or possibly even humans themselves Ok so this is just Megaton Musashi with much worse everything? At least in Musashi you actually get to live in the town and interact with bunch of townpeople, but here you're stuck in school with other annoying kids for 100 days. Aliens in Megaton are intelligent species that interact with each other and the MC group a lot, while here they don't even speak our language AND most of them are mobs of tiny gremlin critters and little blobs. There's no way I can take them seriously. Also, combat sucks. really bad.
>>1142860 >live in the town and interact with bunch of townpeople overselling it a bit, aren't you
Chances anything will be done in terms of the trannyslation?`I dont think my N4 reading comprehension will suffice to play the game and understand it fully.
>>1143853 doubt it. dangan fanbase genuinely love this kind of translation style.
>>1141844 >Yugamu's speech Oh yeah I'm very interested in seeing what translations do for this. >>1142860 Man I wish I had the mecha tism, MM seems like a fun game with lots of customization.
(819.31 KB 1920x1080 early game map.jpg)

>>1143639 nah The town has a lot of areas, each with multiple townspeople NPCs and a lot of sidequests involving them. A lot of NPCs also have their own little story that get updated after every major story event, like an oblivious toy-obsessed boy and a tsundere girl crushing on him, or a teenage girl standing in front of a maid cafe too embarrassed to go in etc etc. The town in Megaton Musashi is full of life. Despite the similar setting/premise, 100-Line seems to be the complete opposite of that since the town is pretty much pointless. we don't even get to see it outside the animated intro cutscene.
>>1144141 >similar setting/premise Not really? The focus is clearly on the kids being brought to this random school in fuck you nowhere and finding that there's no way out. The school is the equivalent of MM's town, except it's about as exciting to explore as a MH hub.
>>1144228 >The focus is clearly on the kids being brought to this random school in fuck you nowhere and finding that there's no way out From the demo (5 hours), the premise is "live in the school, defend it from the invading aliens or else humanity is doomed. survive 100 days and you can go back to your normal life"
Thought this thread was autosaging, did the mods take pity or was it just active enough desu.
I'm worried that the combat sections will make the game drag a lot if you want to replay to get all endings
Should I buy the Digital Deluxe Edition?

When the character art released, who else had their interest level take a big hit? They’re like if you made randomized AI art from Komatsuzaki’s style instead of Komatsuzaki creating the characters. I’m not saying that’s what it is but it’s really off-putting. Why is Hundred-Line alone of all the games with the same artist which looks like this? Generic / boring / ugly etc are not characteristics I’d ever assigned to them in the past, wtf is going on?
>>1145804 They prioritized Tribe Nine
>>1145804 Rui is running out of ideas after designing over 100 characters pls understand
>>1143894 braindead faggotcucks
>>1144340 That's just what Sirei says, no one actually gives a shit about humanity and the plot will probably be more about unraveling mysteries than saving the world. It's also kinda unfair to compare a whole town populated with side quests, Level-5 style, to a school of 10+5+2. Or worse, the prologue cutscene town without even a 3D model we're not gonna see ever again. >>1144716 I just hope we don't have to play through the tutorials again, or we get to carry more stuff over for NG+. >>1145224 If you really want to give Kodaka a tip I guess, I'm sure the artbook and soundtrack'll get ripped within a day of release.
>>1115203 I'm excited for expedition 33. The devs seem to actually care about making a fun game based on what I've osmosed from threads. If my impression is right and it really is a bunch of devs that got sick of the corporate shit from ubisoft and just wanted to make a fun game then we're in for a great time. Like their no mini map due to the immersion of being an expedition comment. I saw a lot of anons pissed at that, but it signals that the devs don't give a fuck about 'accessibility' at the cost of their vision for the game. In a corporate game they wouldn't be allowed to remove things that make it less 'accessible'. That comment alone was what pushed me to preorder and I legit don't preorder anything. I also just enjoy turn based games in general so it's right up my alley.
>preordering >in CY+10 The flying fuck is wrong with you negroes?
>preordering >preordering a fr*nch game the most "based" french is still woke to some degree. it's in their genetic.
>>1146277 Shit they're ex-Ubi devs? I thought it was a random indie. I like turn-based too so all the talking about Expedition 33 made me curious, can't get it this month because of HL but I'll watch the threads when it releases.

>>1142860 >Mechs This looks cool
>>1146563 I doubt it, especially with this title where the developers are staunchly against any sort of DLC. But I haven't been following the Switch 2
>>1146563 I must have misunderstood the switch titles. I was under the impression that all the games were upgradable not only nintendo mainline. In that case it's an even easier buy since it should just run better on the stronger hardware naturally when you go to play it on s2 (at least I would think)
>>1140363 is this real? i stopped playing it at the start of chapter 4. should i pick it back up?
>>1146657 From my understanding "upgrades" are game specific. Nintendo is asking you to pay to upgrade their first party games like Zelda (not to play them on switch 2 just to get 60fps). Though honestly I may just be a retard so take what I say lightly
>>1146681 I personally liked everything with raincode, but around that time it picks up more traction. The mystery dungeon is still boring as hell.
>>1146772 You're probably right. I don't see 3rd party devs making 2 seperate copies of the game. That said since 3rd psrty devs cant milk 20 bucks by gatekeeping upgrades I would think buying it for the switch would just mean it would run better when you pop it in a switch 2 similar to playing a steam game on a toaster vs a proper pc. May be wrong though I have no idea the back end of hardware/software
>>1146563 HL runs really well on Switch already, I don't think they're gonna charge you to play this turn-based VN at 60fps instead of 30 lmao. >>1146657 The other anon is right, for stuff without upgrades you'll simply be playing them as if you're playing on a Switch 1, but maybe with better performance.

I had hoped that another character would be between Darumi and Tsubasa, but alas. Seems like they got into a petty argument if Eito's refusing to participate.

Kodaka and Uchikoshi answering questions from westerners, apparently a multi-part series. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEL6Ek_Lma0 >>1150878 S2L cast is super out there compared to LDA so yeah I'd imagine their views clashed too much. >Oosuzuki has a pretty cute dress Oh shit I just noticed. Kawaii..
>>1151488 I'm surprised they got questions from bilibili and xiaohongshu too, thought their presence were limited to the EN space. A lot of the answers were just repeats of what Kodaka said on social media and the Famitsu article though unfortunately.
I don't know anything about the game nor do I really care, there's only one factor that will dictate whether I'll play it or not - who's the composer?

>>1154140 >A lot of the answers were just repeats of what Kodaka said on social media Yeah, it was a little annoying reading the 50th "Are the 100 endings actually different" question online. I asked my own about the localization process and what the team looks like but I doubt I'll get a response. Maybe they'll start answering more interesting questions after getting the basic shit out of the way. >>1154201 Masafumi Takada
>>1154280 Thank you, that is exactly what I wanted to hear. Just hope they don't fuck it up like they did with Rain Code

>>1090281 >Final Is it confirmed that he won't do anything close to this ever again?
>>1154466 >>1154466 If the game flops then Hundred Line is probably his last game. The loan he took out to fund the game was massive so he needs it to sell well.
>>1154535 It might be true
>>1154535 Wouldn't the gacha potentially cover up the costs too? Though I guess if it doesn't make any money there's no incentive for it. Unless he does it for the love of it, but even then low sales would sour it. >>1122070 Are these supposed to be funny? Or just little things done for the sake of it?

>>1154659 >Are these supposed to be funny They're little somethings posted every day for a week until release. I'm guessing it's just to give players stuff to look forward to like the videos posted every morning since the 100-day login challenge is basically finished
>>1154535 KoDORKa is so done
>>1155064 Don't say that. I believe this game will be the game of the year. No game will surpass this masterpiece.
>>1154399 Oh I know the soundtrack will be good. My problem with Rain Code is that some segments like Reasoning Death Match get interrupted a lot, so you never get the chance to hear the full song in-game
>>1155105 I hope you're right. I certainly wouldn't mind having a masterpiece to play.
>>1155008 I see, either way I'm looking forward to it. If it's even half as packed as it sounds, it seems to hit a weird benchmark that goes beyond the usual gameplay + VN style stuff. I can only assume the 100 endings includes shit like variations on who lives in some neutral route shit, cause 100 actually distinct endings sounds absurd in terms of effort.

(307.51 KB 2048x1536 GokRaa6XsAABJEF.jpg)

>>1155165 >100 actually distinct endings This is exactly how they're advertising it thoughbeit. It's part of the reason why they needed so many different writers.
>>1155300 I'm still skeptical. It's already difficult enough for a handful of writers to write 2 or 3 coherent endings to a large-scale videogame, let alone a hundred. They'd need several dozen skilled writers and even then it'd be a herculean amount of effort to make all the endings make sense and keep everyone's characterization consistent between routes.
>>1155300 I can expect some level of difference, but "distinct "is the keyword here. I don't see how they could actually write super varied endings, 100 of them, based on routes. It also sounds like a fucking nightmare to replay through just to check variations.
>>1155927 Get ready for 1000 hour save file if you want true 100%
I honestly thought it would have leaked by now
>>1157443 switch leaks don't happen often unless the franchise is stupid popular, i.e. pokemon, mario, metroid, zelda. and when they do it's usually only 1 or 2 days before release.

Does anyone think this is actually going to be good?
>>1161376 You have doubts? Don't get cold feet now. I honestly think (if everything promised is true) this game has the potential to surpass Danganronpa. And I think since Kodaka took out that loan for this he's actually putting a lot of effort into it, because he needs it to sell well. So I have hope.
>>1161376 It can't be any worse than Danganronpa got after 2, so at worst it'll be mediocre
(206.12 KB 1571x1195 Go5950haMAArabS.jpg)

>>1161376 I'm trying to curb my expectations. But it'll certainly be better than DR. As long as it's fun and has a good story then I wouldn't care if it's not GOTY material (RPG of the Year, maybe?)
>>1146823 The mystery dungeon is a really poor replacement for the class trial. It gives the cases a visual element which class trials didn’t have — but it’s inferior in all other ways. In a class trial the entire cast is interacting; in the mystery dungeons only a few of the cast is involved. Furthermore, exposing the murder’s inner motivation was a huge part of their character development in the class trial but which gets mostly glossed over in the mystery dungeons because the murderer is represented by an unintelligent 3rd party mystical force and completing the dungeon means killing the murder in real life so there’s never that exposition all the other games had.
>>1161376 I fear it won’t be good and the REASON why Kodaka has been doomposting begging for sales is because he KNOWS that it’s bad. I don’t believe he ACTUALLY put himself into bankruptcy-level debt over this one game, but it’s still a fact that if he thought it was a good game he would be confident in its success. The fact that he’s NOT confident in the game’s success is exactly why it makes me think he knows that it’s not his best work to put it mildly. You think of the competency crisis in game development as a Western phenomena, but it’s probably a world-wide issue. Depending on the cause of it of course. If it’s just woke culture taking over and hiring only low-IQ talentless losers then maybe Japan has avoided it at least for now. But, I’m afraid that the competency crisis is hitting everywhere and everything for whatever reason (falling IQs, unhealthy diets, microplastics / environmental toxins, etc). Or maybe the competency crisis has nothing to do with this game and it’s just a failed attempt to make a game using AI which could explain why it seems so much lower quality than Kodaka’s other recent games.
>>1161376 Think? we have a 5 hours demo. I already know it's gonna be offensively mid at best.
>>1163381 It's a new IP, that carries risk no matter the name, and it's not like he is a guaranteed super seller like some of the actually well known stuff.
>>1163878 To be fair though. I don't remember Rain Code, or Tribe Nine getting pushed this hard. Kodaka is doing everything he can to get the word about HL out there.
>>1163983 >Rain Code It's a Spike Chunsoft game, he doesn't own it like HL. >Tribe Nine Iirc they don't own it completely either. HL is the first original project from his company that they own 100%.
>>1164083 That's fair. Kodaka has to advertise HL himself.
>>1163381 >if he were confident the game is good, he wouldn't bother advertising it! I don't think that tracks
>>1161376 I'm optimistic, but I'm going in with the understanding that he's probably talking how of his ass about variations.
>>1163381 I think he's not confident because most of his projects aren't that successful. This is also his most ambitious game ever if even 10% of what has been said about the game is true, so it's a natural thing to talk about. But also, a lot of this "If this game fails, I'll retire!" is hype talk. It's not some idea of [modern issue] you're hyperfixated on, we can see precisely why Kodaka would think the game would fail. >Objectively the largest post-SpiChun project he has worked on >Possibly the largest project he has EVER worked on >Absurd amount of planning and things taken into consideration for the game >Lackluster commercial reception to his post-DR works like WEC and RC These are key factors that cause this worry. Not the idea that Kodaka is surrounded by a billion Indians or is using AI to make his game.
Do you you guys have any ideas about some of the mysteries the game showed in the demo so far? Just curious about what others think. >Mascot being seemingly dead >Another language entirely for the generals on the enemy side >The secret they're guarding >Why does it have to be a school theme (besides meta reasons, since the characters themselves wonder about it) >Ghost? dude trying to talk to MC What comes to mind for me without thinking too much on it is around >The mascot is in fact dead, and can't be replaced by someone who just acts the same, but can be revived later, like the others, since his parts don't decay >The language barrier is gonna turn out to be some language that was used by people from some other nation, or was just the previous universal language before everything went to shit >It's probably some type of item that allows for time rewind, or some parallel world hopping stuff >No idea why they need to follow some school theming, but I think it relates to the broken down school you run into at the start >Ghost just makes me think that those who fully served don't just go home, or they're from those that died as they did their duty, and are trying to warn those who can see them of the bullshit going on There's also some allusions to VR type stuff going on, and potentially that their lives in safety were just illusions done by machines I guess.
>>1166654 >Mascot being seemingly dead He's gonna get revived or replaced, with some new route making him live. >Another language entirely for the generals on the enemy side I feel like it's them trying to hide what the generals really are. >The secret they're guarding Something with time. >Why does it have to be a school theme (besides meta reasons, since the characters themselves wonder about it) Marketing. >Ghost? dude trying to talk to MC I thought it was the sickly guy. Personally I think he killed the mascot.
>>1166654 I don't really have a lot of theories but >Mascot being seemingly dead My idea is that after the S2L merge Nigou will bring him back, either with a Revive-O-Matic specifically designed for him or he'll have a spare on demand. They are described as robots so wouldn't be surprising if Nigou could just upload Sirei's consciousness into a new body >Another language entirely for the generals on the enemy side People have actually been able to translate some of the commanderspeak so it could be they're speaking Japanese but it's not coming out correctly for whatever reason >Why does it have to be a school theme I'd imagine it's a misguided attempt to try and have the LDA in a sort of familiar environment Not sure what to make of the secret hidden in the academy or the ghostboy
>>1166654 You forgot about the higher-ups that Sirei talks about. There's also that mystery.

>>1163381 >Advertising your game is doomposting. >Game is 213# place on Steam and will get lower as it hits the home stretch >Sakurai from Nintendo advertised The Hundred Line >Yoko Taro Advertised The Hundred Line At this point I would not be surprised if it's a success day one, but what will matter the most is if The Hundred Line ends up capturing the Danganronpa feeling throughout, which it should considering the high reviews for the Demo. After that it's smooth sailing because Kodaka will be able to not only say he made Danganronpa, and Rain Code, but also The Hundred Line, and was apart of Tribe Nine. Helping his status become bigger than usual and proving it's still possible to make hits even after a trilogy series.

>>1166479 I think it's an ego thing, he knows he relies entirely on Danganronpa formula, literally most people will play this because it looks, sounds, and has a similar concept as Danganronpa >But the gameplay Danganronpa middle gameplay had a lot of freedom to make it whatever you want. You had different kind of explorations in the games, it could have been a srpg too if it wanted too
