I just had a thought, one that I really don't like. So supposedly the swordmaster was the one Kunishige trusted the most, but wound up being the most unhinged. What is the datenseki used to make Magatsumi housed something similar to a "spirit of the land" which then possessed the swordmaster via the blade, and had some kind of longstanding grudge against humans. That would explain why the sword master needed to be sealed at all, and why Magatsumi is still trying to spew highly aesthetic flower fields all over.
