Anonymous 04/15/2025 (Tue) 23:33:51 No. 8106
Are games meant to be fun?
>>8106 If it's not fun, why bother?
You could have posted the "fun is irrelevant" screencap instead of some xitter nigger
>>8106 Why would I bother with a game that isn't engaging? A game that is a chore to play or unappealing (like a story about your kid dying of cancer) is an idea that would have done better in another form of media
This is a really interesting question asked by the wrong person in an annoying way. Ignoring le political e-celeb nobodies on shitter, the question of "Should a game be fun?" depends on the game, and what it's replacing that fun with, and how one even defines fun to begin with. Most VNs couldn't be described as fun, but they are engaging. Good writing, music, or art can all be a replacement for "fun". Yedoma Globula, a "walking sim" exploration game with virtually no gameplay, is hard to call fun, but it's one of the most captivating indies I've ever played with its surreal landscapes and difficulty even navigating the world. This thread doesn't deserve more mental effort, but it's something to ponder.
yes, faggot. what kind of crack are you smoking?
No, games should be difficult and frustrating. You are meant to derive pleasure from overcoming difficulty. "Fun" is a buzzword
>>8106 There's a difference between the "hard as balls" fun that can be found in legitimately difficult games and retarded tedium (jrpg grind)
>>8106 what a dumbass, pathologic offers a challenge that is meant to be overcomed. Overcoming those challenges gives you dopamine rush, aka fun.
>>8106 >twitter screenshot from 2021 >vaush hang yourself and livestream it
Can we NOT shit this place up with fucking twitter screenshots and steam charts? Fuck.
>>8112 Some are education and those may not be fun but still have a purpose
I know this is /b/ with vidya but have some self-respect
>>8106 "fun" is a meme, for instance, people think watching vaush is fun

>>8106 Yes
>>9665 Is smoking crack meant to be fun?
Videogame is not art/artform
>>8106 Video games are art because they’re a mashup of art forms, so they don’t have to be fun, just engaging in some way. Problem is, developers aren’t strong enough artists to stand out in the disciplines they use. Being fun compensates for that.
I don't find anything fun anymore
