If anyone's going to play this game I'd recommend Economic Equalization Overhaul (makes the economy function more regularly and stops the silly shit of having dozens of tiny countries being way better at building stuff like mission control than a single large country) and some mod of your choice for more unifications if you're going to be focusing on Earth.

This is what I'd recommend to anyone looking to play Stellaris. Just buy the base game for as little as you can get it and then creampie all the DLCs.
For mods I have to 110% say Stellaris Evolved. It's a huge improvement to the game. Though I'd actually caution against picking up Stellaris right now. A massive update is coming out around the start of next month that's going to change the population and economy. If you start now you'll basically have to learn the game twice.
