Blue Eyes is a stinky archetype because the card waifu is for Kaiba so you are a cuck. Dark Magician is a great archetype because the card waifu has no significant other since Atem is only a friend and his philosophy is that women reduce his card drawing speed.

You know, despite having jerked off several times to dark magician girl, i don't actually own the card itself. I wanted to get a LART (back when they were handing them out everywhere if you bought $30 worth of product) just because uncensored tits, but i didn't actually like that one art (DSOD>MP24>the rest), so i didn't. I did get my silent magician playset as soon as it got reprinted however, even though she has killed millions of my children exactly once. Then again, she actually is a tech in my invoked pile (tribute artemis to summon her, cartesia can fuse with her, it's never a dead card).

Sometimes I even used what I imagine would have been a god tier deck back then (full dark magician with buster blader fusions) but it's still balanced against the AI, yet the duels never feel like cancer.

Some of the events have had that, like Theme Chronicles and stuff like that. Just ban decks purposely made to break the game, ban most handtraps, and ban any generic card that can be a win condition on itself, and you have a fun environment. If you really, really just want to have fun with casual duels without having to deal with Master Duel cancer, you can download Legacy of the Duelist and some mods. You get all the fun of old games, with none of the cancer of current decks. My biggest problem with old formats is that some old decks really need the new support. For example, trying to run Dark Magician in Edison is a joke. I have no idea what to play for the Fire/Wind part of the event. The only good Springan's normal summon is Dark so I will hope to draw a playable 2 card hand to combo into Dempsey to search Fighting Flame Swordsman to normal summon. The worst part is not having access to Branded in High Spirits+Sprind to setup Captain Sargas every game.

Speed duels were unironically the fix to modern Yugioh but Konami absolutely fucking failed to properly market them, it was the product for all the Yugiboomers who got angry at Master Duel solitaire games, it lets you play perhaps even closer to the anime than even the original cards thanks to skills and limited deck size (so you'll draw those animemons quickly, also having just 1 copy of them makes them feel special). Yet even I thought it was some crappy spinoff like rush duels. Should have been called Legacy / Legendary / Classic Duels instead of SPEED which made it sound like an even more zoomer version of the game.
