Hybrid builds thrive in Elden Ring. The game's length lends itself to more diverse stat distributions.
While there is an internal logic to how extrinsic rewards are distributed throughout the open world, it isn't always consistent. The better rewards are typically in dungeons and mini-dungeons, but there's also a lot of worthwhile ones in the open world - specifically ashes of war from scarabs, which can at least be seen from a distance. Eventually you get a feel for it, at which point it's easier to explore the open world without wanting to kill yourself. The real meat of the game is still the dungeons and bosses, however.

I think the great irony of FromSoft games is that we've basically come full circle from Dark Souls. Dark Souls was so popular because it defied the industry's obsession with "casualization" in the wake of the Wii's success. It proved that gamers wanted good games that didn't hold their hands. Yet now the Internet is flooded with idiots on Twitter, Reddit, and 4chan
:^) and self-styled critics on YouTube who demand that the games sand down every rough corner. They demand difficulty modes and a pause button, they bitch about invasions, they complain that there are no suggest level ranges for areas, and you could fill a fucking book with all the lies and misconceptions about Elden Ring boss design. At best, they're well-intentioned and don't know what they want; at worst, they want to rot the games from the inside out.
I'm glad that Miyazaki has said he doesn't really read feedback.
