Sonic the Hedgehog Anonymous 10/15/2024 (Tue) 09:45:27 Id: 824c4a No. 1027938
With Sonic X Shadow Generations coming out in less than a week, now is a good time for a new Sonic thread. Personally I'm quite excited for the game, and am surprised it hasn't already leaked since it usually leaks around this time. Although I'm kinda disappointed we haven't seen a proper Adventure remake yet, hopefully this game will be good and will lead to good things as time goes on. Oh, and hopefully we'll get a Shadow remake that's actually good this time. I doubt SEGA has the balls to make that kinda game in the modern age though. Are you looking forward to Shadow Generations? Do you think we'll get more Sonic stages as DLC? Or will the game just be average and a waste of money and the cycle will repeat itself all over again, even though Frontiers as a modded game is solid. Still, this is the thread to discuss anything and everything Sonic the Hedgehog! please don't porn dump, I'm looking at you Bui

>>1072268 There are lots of elements from SA1 referenced in 2, but not direct plot points. Like yeah the emerald shrine and chaos are referenced but nothing that specifically says due to the events in the first game events in the second are now happening. It's all backstory stuff. In the Archie comics GUN is created due to the events of the Adventure adaptation, but that's super different to how the game story goes.
>>1072267 >Everyone evacuated due to Eggman's missile attack. Some people might have, but the city seems pretty well populated when chaos becomes perfect and starts flooding the city. There are also people cheering for Sonic from somewhere off screen before he becomes Super Sonic. >the city must have rebuilt If this was the case, it should have been specified somewhere in the newspaper. Maybe they can award Tails the emerald for helping them rebuild or something. Tails is a genius, he can create machines to help rebuild a city. >it reappears in Sonic Chronicles Speaking of things that are in a weird canon/non-canon limbo. I'm not sure how much Sega even wants to touch that game due to all the bullshit Penders pulled. >>1072268 >surely there's something else that ties the two stories, even something like the emerald chamber in the ARK or the artificial Chaos or something? We're talking about plot, not characters or items. The chaos alter and artificial chaos aren't plot beats in SA2, they're just things that also kind of existed in SA1. The E100 badniks are also in SA2, but they don't have any relevance to the plot. That's like saying SA2 and Knuckles' Chaotix share a plot because both games have Knuckles in them. The newspaper directly ties into the events of SA1 and contradicts them, the events of SA1 lead to that article being written and having relevance to the plot of SA2.
>>1072737 >Some people might have, but the city seems pretty well populated when chaos becomes perfect and starts flooding the city. Good point. This is a contradiction in the game. As I mention, two characters that are left in Station Square explicitly say that everyone else left. But yeah, the cutscene contradicts that. >If this was the case, it should have been specified somewhere in the newspaper. Not necessarily. Not every article about New York needs to mention The Freedom Tower or whatever they call it. Also, it's always bugged me that Station Square is sometimes treated like the name of the city. In Sonic Adventure, it always seemed obvious to me that Station Square was just this one little neighborhood in the city. It's just the square near the station. >Speaking of things that are in a weird canon/non-canon limbo. I'm not sure how much Sega even wants to touch that game due to all the bullshit Penders pulled. Sega doesn't want to do much with it, but they had Flynn mention Shade the Echidna in the Encyclo-Speed-Ia, seemingly just to spite Penders and assert their own ownership over something he claims to own. >tl;dr: The newspaper in SA2 doesn't contradict SA1, but actually Super Sonic's story in SA1 somewhat contradicts the cutscene that shows Chaos attacking the city immediately after. Also, the Emerald Shrine and Artificial Chaos do kind of have relevance to the plot, in that they inform the backstory, but it's subtle. They do show Gerald's knowledge of echidna lore, which is important even though the story doesn't focus on it. But yeah, your point that it's not quite the same as how Tails got the Emerald is correct and reasonable.
You can finally play Sonic Unleashed on PC natively due to recompilation. https://github.com/hedge-dev/UnleashedRecomp/
>>1075642 Is there a Linux port?
>>1075642 I just saw this, hopefully I can build it myself, I tried building the Sonic Advance 2 port but that went nowhere, these recomps are usually extremely nit-picky when it comes to OS requirements, even Steam OS wasn't good enough for it. >>1075644 Yeah there's a windows and flatpak version, and Steam Deck compatibility seems great.
>>1075642 >Unleashed back in the spotlight feelsgoodman
>>1075642 Someone should do this with midnight club 3 and LA
>>1075642 If this is implicitly supported by Sega, will they not make another hackeneyed remaster like Colors?
thoughts on kit?
>>1097599 Underwhelming attempt of Evil Tails
>>1097599 >>1097618 He's not even really evil. Surge isn't really evil either but Kit is even less evil than she is.

>Not even 3 days have passed and the mods on /fast/ have already started banning handfuls of people at a time >Got hit with a 1 month ban over a random post >pretty sure it was by complete mistake that I was banned since the ban reason was literally "same as last time" >Can't even appeal because the jannie just deletes it >Janny then went on a schizo tangent and claimed me and 4 other anons were samefagging That board is so fucked lol. 3 days and moderating only 30 people at most and the mods still go on an egotripping ban spree. Sthg is so fucked.

>>1131621 You newfags have ruined this entire site, and I'm happy any time any one of you gets banned for any reason.
Some retarded thought hit me and made me think Frontiers was sonic team trying to reiterate on what they were trying to do with unleashed >boost stages but with course correction from forces and taking notes from unleashed, colors and gens stages >but also has beat em up, but this time it's just regular sonic and is fast
>>1027938 Reminder that SA3 already exists and it's name is Sonic 06
>>1144929 Nah they just wanted to appeal to nips and normalfags. That's why Frontiers is a generic open world game with light Sonic elements. The Sonic elements are fresh and new to nips and normalfags while the open world makes the game feel more familiar to them. You don't come to Sonic for Zelda or Armored Core, but the average person who bought Frontiers did.

>>1146363 I'd say it's a bit more complected as Sonic Heroes, and Shadow 05 are a direct follow up to SA2. So there is credence for saying they deserve some kind of Adventure 2.5 spot, although they aren't direct sequels. So over all yes Sonic 06 in its design is in essence Adventure 3. The really shitty part about the last 15 years of Sonic is that Sonic Team really did throw the baby out with the Bathwater. Sonic 06 is the best designed game 3D Sonic has ever had, and I know obviously the game is unfinished and buggy as shit, but when it comes to the core design of everything, it's superior to anything they've been doing, every time they take a step closer to Sonic 06 it's for the better. Boost Sonic gameplay is at it's core nothing but style over substance. Sonic is a game that is about Momentum, having a "Go Max Speed" button removes momentum from the equation entirely, they should have been thinking of ways to remove Dash panels, not giving you a built in one to use at any time. The Mach speed sections Sonic has in 06 are simply a better idea then Boost gameplay, because Mach speed is actually significant when it shows up. It's Sonic going so fast it's a Challenge controlling himself, and Mach Speed only shows up Occasionally, so it does't get old, when you Successfully win a Mach Speed segment it is a relief. There is no challenge to Boost gameplay beyond making it so you can't react to what is coming in front of you, and you need to memorize the level. Then there is the fact Sonic 06 has Multiple playable characters with their own play styles, and Narratives. That also keeps the experience fresh, they are actually good playstyles at their core, not something like the Werehog where it's just God of War but worse, there are also 2 side characters to play as along with the 3 main characters, but they never had the chance to be too fleshed out. On top of that there is the open world aspect where you get to explore and do side missions. With this exception to the clunkier parts of the story, and the huge lack of Polish. Sonic 06 is just a better designed game to the most of what we've been getting, and the reason it game still has managed to have so many fans is because that people who can look past Sonic 06's glaring flaws, see that it's just a fun game.
>>1148148 I agree on everything except sonic has never had a proper "momentum" based gameplay ever since hitting 3D They should really get on with that

Sonic 4 Episode 2's cut teaser for Episode 3 has been found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnSsIwqBbZ8
>>1146641 Damn, I kinda want to justify the thought that hit me but then I remembered they can actually design boost stages now as seen in shadgen What were they even thinking with the "open" zone
>>1159492 >Knuckles and ME Everyone called that Ep 3 would have been Sonic 3 inspired ages ago but nice to finally see official evidence of it.
>>1159492 >inb4 Dimps announces Episode 3 out of nowhere
Sonic games unironically DO create autists. That's just a fact. You have to be autistic to collect all the Chaos Emeralds and beat all the Special Stages in the 2D games. You have to be autistic to get S ranks on every level in the 3D games. You have to be autistic to speedrun and replay the same levels over and over for faster times. Every part of Sonic's gameplay is designed to turn you into a furry with the 'tism.

>>1159620 >What were they even thinking with the "open" zone Because normalfags and nips get filtered by normal Sonic stages they thought that a low-stake open world map that always has safety-net ground below you instead bottom pits would appeal more to them since now they can tackle it at their own pace with a very low chance of failure. They first experimented with making the Open Zone focused on its mystery and puzzles, then they shifted focus to the combat and then finally playtesters from the west told them that it doesn't play like Sonic at all so Sonic Team added all the floating rails and platforms during the last year of Frontiers' development.
>>1148148 Boost probably exists because of limits on world sizes in the earlier 3D Sonic games.
