https://www.hipstersofthecoast.com/2022/07/design-of-a-card-jeskai-elder/ "there’s this illusion among players that balance is an inherently good thing. When you zoom out, you want there to be a dynamic balance among archetypes in Limited or Constructed format, but only at that macro level. On an individual level, you want there to be power imbalances. " Zach Barash, Design of a Card: Jeskai Elder
it kills me that the boards finally getting life again. But its all YugiOh. Surely you guys have seen some 40k stuff yeah?
>>491 The collab with mtg? Between D&D and Balduer gate I can't remember which one character background mechanic came from
There are people who play Llanowar Elf longer than I lived

Does thoughtseize still matter?
>>491 I saw it I bought it I like it >vehicles all kinda do some cool stuff but crewing vehicles is pretty meh >cryptothrall is a good option but it's not very cost effective >canoptek scarabs are all kinda weird and don't synergize very well >Szarekh puts himself on the line just for the potential to put a creature into your hand >Anrakyr is good, but primarily best for getting artifacts that you can't return very well, much better cards can do what he does >Imotekh is cheep, easy to put down, and has a relatively nice ability set that plays well with most of the cards no matter what you choose to keep or swap >Trazyn is godly when you have a full grave, which the deck is great at, but is way too expensive for early game, meaning he is best suited to be a secondary win con After I thought about his ability a bit more, he has a lot of synergy potential as long as you can keep your grave in play, which is actually fairly easy all told >pili-pala means he untaps for infinite mana if you have a mana source artifact in your graveyard that taps for more than one mana >golem artisan makes it so everything can be haste trample fliers with as many +1/+1s as you desire >endless atlas means infinite drawing >elixr of immortality as a safe, quick way to delete your graveyard if you need to subvert an exodus >scarecrone and skeleton shard return artifact creatures to your field or hand respectively, causing commander stormlord to make necron creatures two by one >bolas's citadel can be used in conjunction with all the aforementioned abilities to tap, sac 10 creatures, 4 of which should be non-tokens, do 10 damage to all opponents, 2+untap generate 1 mana, pull 4 creatures from your grave, generate 8 necron tokens, and do it all over again until your opponent is out of life >if they have some sort of lich card or an ability that prevents them from dying due to life loss or are unable to lose the game otherwise the deck needs some removal to satisfy those conditions, many of which exist as creature cards in the deck, such as a creature that forces players to sac when it enters the battlefield, which if you're using the above method, should just be a necron token All in all it's a pretty strong precon and it doesn't take a whole lot to tinker with it's basically a fun necromancy deck with artifacts instead of dead, and since it's got a monocolor commander you can use some of the stronger monocolor spells black offers. The only problems are the general pitfalls of artifacts, but since this deck has a lot of options for restoring your numbers.

Not content with using AI they are now just ripping off other peoples work directly.
Yugioh player here. I heard Mtg spoiler season never end for the past year. We do get weekly spoiler/ card preview but this year there is a 1 month period of preview drought from early February this year.
>>1100 Blatant plagiarism like this in the internet era confuses me. You're gonna get caught and you're gonna get a very public shaming. Especially for something so high profile. Surely they've seen plagiarists getting caught themselves, do people think they're magically immune?

just a little over thousand posts, feels weird man. I wonder if this hole will be the new place for /edhg/ and /mmg/ or maybe I dug too deep by necropostan..
>>1307 I wonder if this goes on long enough if splinter threads for the formats will pop up.
>>1336 Let's see if there's even enough traffic to keep one thread's discussion alive first. And in that spirit, anyone had any good experiences with Dragonstorm limited? Is it worth trying to find a draft or should I just buy singles of whatever cards I want?

>>1363 I think a lot of people expected 4chan to be down for a few days and come back, but it's not. 8chan site traffic will probably increase over the next few weeks while we talk about Final Fantasy spoilers.
So much shit is happening across all my interests and 4chan decides to go down now. Fuck. This was gonna be a great chance to talk about MTG Arena on /v/ too.
>>1364 well at least this place has ids so shitpostan might decline drastically
>>1367 Probably. The catalog is small enough that your ID is basically permanent, so you're going to have to stand by your decisions and defend your opinions. What's the image limit on 8chan?
>>1368 Wait, the IDs are the same across different threads? Absolute cringe.
>>1369 No, I meant that there aren't enough threads for bump limit to churn this thread out, so this will be the only mtg thread until we hit the image limit.
>>1367 IDs are worthless, mine already changed for no reason a bunch of times
>>1372 I travel a lot for work and mostly phonepost, so it will probably change whenever I move between cell towers.
>>1344 Yeah, fair enough. I imagine there will be some splitting of perception depending on what format exactly but a decent amount is still the same.
>>1363 >x's last words I initially thought this was a joke card with that. They really do love using that. Got to say, a two mana copy with only slight restrictions isn't half bad.
the bracket system was a good idea!
>>499 It's still okay in the sideboard.
New Frank Karsten article if anyone still cares about Standard https://magic.gg/news/metagame-mentor-standard-takes-flight-with-tarkir-dragonstorm I am still seething that Monstrous Rage wasn't banned, especially now with Cori-Steel Cutters showing up in every format. >>1364 I hope more people find this thread. I always enjoy reading anon's takes on card power levels (whether they're right or wrong) as they get spoiled.

Let me get this straight: Tarkir is an Asian set and every human in the set is clearly Asian or at most difficult to tell (pics related). Why can't the same apply to European sets?

Mono-green is the best, I will not hear otherwise. >We draw more than blue >we can lifegain harder than white >we can reanimate just like black >we can do büngo damage like red But I would like more big flyers, wizards pls.
>>1683 you forgot >get excused for tutoring in low brackets >get excused for getting interacted with your resources >get to dodge playable exile removal on your resources almost completely anyway there is LITERALLY nothing you can do against green

>>1700 If the people at your tables let the green player get away with that, that's on them. If 3 people can't group up to pummel one person into the soil, then there's other issues.
Tiamat's deck so far. Got lucky in the Draft and got Ugin and Mox Jasper. Buddy pulled Dracogenesis though and I had nothing to trade with him.
>>1697 We just need to post more. I'm sure it will pick up a bit when Final Fantasy spoilers start in ernest.
>>484 >balance is an inherently good thing It is. Because the opposite is a game where the vast majority of possible playstyles lose you the game. Having to play either the fastest aggro deck or the only control/combo deck powerful enough to beat that aggro consistently is absolute garbage. And it's funny how this retard thinks it's a good thing to have a game where everything has haste and gets bigger constantly.
(94.54 KB 1153x651 RDW.jpg)

(237.32 KB 1064x714 RDW 2.jpg)

>>1559 >RDW is dead LMAO >too much life gain Lifegain decks kill midrange and control much more than they do aggro. Life gain is generally still too slow and relies too much on luck compared to the aggro decks.
>>1522 Generally white and white multicolors get disproportionately overpowered cards. It's a problem with WotC's design ethos.
>>1728 anon that post is over 2 years old. bro is propably dead

>Try out competitive format that's incredibly popular where I live. >$250 staples.
One thing I've always wanted to do but have never had enough care or ambition is go through all of the Basic Sets before M10 and compare/contrast what's in them to create an Archetypal M:tG and do a complete Rules rewrite with all of the knowledge about the game and it's meta we now have to work off of. Create a sane eternal format that is quintessentially Magic with all the bullshit filed off. I think that kind of thing is what would preserve the game into the future after WotC shoots itself in the head for the final time.
>>1770 I like this in my Gale, Raised By Giants. Turning a bunch of 1/1 birds into 11/11s makes for fun game enders. Being able to cast it again either in the same turn or again next turn cycle if anyone is still up is a blus.
>>1781 That feels like what Foundations was trying to be, but the constant need to design a set around limited kind of shot it in the foot.
>>1364 >few days it's going to be few months realistically. from what i've seen hiro didn't bother updating anything ever since he bought the site from moot and the source code theft will only uncover more vulnerabilities.
Where did most of the /mtg/ crowd go?
>>1770 For me, it's 'Hoof >nooooooo it's too ez shut up whore
>>1798 For me, it's crackerhoof.
>>1765 I don't think Foundations is a problem by itself, and it is not a problem that it has to support limited either. The problem exists in what they are lying the foundations for: and endless supply of Universes Beyond that debases Magic as an IP, because they can't be bothered to afford time to develop"within universe" cards. For me after the space set gets released 2025 will be over.
