Trench Crusade 04/18/2025 (Fri) 13:13:56 Id: 553e6b No. 1493
It's the most astroturfed war game I've ever seen /tg/ and I'm interested in doing more digging on this game. What do we know about 28mag?
I still can't believe how hard they shot themselves in the foot.
>>1493 >>1500 This is why you shouldn't trust the hype culture and research your devs before paying for the product.
Really sad that this happened, the minis looked so cool, the rules looked kinda ass but I could have reworked Savage Worlds Showdown rules to make something more like what I'd want. I really like the minis and I want to buy / print some and paint them. I haven't given a penny to these guys yet and knowing they're SJWs I probably won't now. I missed the Kickstarter because I didn't have space or time for a wargame but now I more likely do in the future so I might print some of these at some point.
To be honest, I lost interest the more it moved away from Occult WW1 to the fantasy WW1Hammer it is now.
>>1493 That whole bit about humans serving hell and only the most evil ones being allowed to go to hell and return just sounds like a royalty free remix of chaos warriors and i don't get where it's supposed to be this evil reddit shit fam
I don't get the hateboner people on chans seem to have for this game It's fun, it has a cool aesthetic and from what I've seen the creators so far has been quite community friendly and transparent. Also releasing the book for free and supporting OC and kitbashing is always based. We've had lots of fun playing it with my group so far. Yes, it's silly, edgy and over the top and it's not ashamed of it or trying to take itself too seriously. Neither should you.
>>1564 bruh, talk about canned astroturf post if you'd read the measly 5 posts before you, you would get it you will likely disagree with them, and that's fine, but it won't be a puzzle why the hateboner is there
>>1554 I agree, but elaborate
>>1576 Some of the initial art, minis, and concept conjured images of "You're a 19yo Canadian, and the furthest away from the family farm in Saskatchewan you've been before the war was Ontario. Now, it's 1917 and you're raiding a trench - and instead of the German stahlhelms you're expecting, you see some foul monstrosity of man and machine emerge from the fog that rolled in. Your hands are shaking, but you rush forward and jam your bayonet into its biomechanical guts." Then I thought the Crusaders themselves are something closer to Iscariot or the Hellsing Organization. I thought it was going to be more like WW1 meets Silent Hill meets Hellsing; which I thought was compelling. Then it turned out to just be Dieselpunk 40k with the worldbuilding you'd expect out of AH.net slop or SDN or SB fanfiction from 2009 that somehow simultaneously edgy and boring. "It's not a phase, Mom!" Dystopian Wars just doesn't do it for me.
Trench crusade sucks because something about it feels mean-spirited and impersonal. 40k is fun. all the characters are are super-emotional in a Shakespearean way, the characters are Homeric and the drama is thick. Even when everything is shitty and dark and grim you can feel there are people who are caught in that setting doing what they have to to survive and even if they themselves are extremely, bombastically, bad people doing bad things they believe in something that pulls them through the darkness and the death to the other side. Tench Crusade, from what I've seen, just doesn't have that. TC is just kinda sucky.
>>1678 That's because Trench Crusade doesn't have any characters outside of lore blurbs
>4chan is kill >finally no more TC shit flinging >we are free to do anything >we can discuss anything >new begging for all 4chan refugees >retard-kun brings TC to new board >not even TC general, or TC talk, or TC art/mini dump >just seething how TC is bad 1/10, made me reply, kys, all fields
>>1688 Should have just made /awg/, would be just as dead here as it were home, and we'd have more than just TC to shitfling about. I really want to see Quar-anon's latest builds.
>>1678 Does help that early 40k didn't take itself too seriously. It became serious later but the first few editions were way more about looking cool than anything.
>>1678 40k does have nearly 40 years of lore and books to fall back on. Though I do find it hard to believe that TC will ever allow for a character like Ciaphas Cain or Trayzn to exist within its world. They’re too funny.
>>1560 Isn't Chaos's whole schtick that you have to activelly fight being possessed by it if you're touched by warp, that it lurks inside every human and that it will recruit anything it can't get because it can't breed itself like actual humans can? The predditness comes from how "elite" and "extreme" you have to be to become an evil soldier, as opposed to how much more run-of-the-mill Chaos makes becoming their henchmen is. It takes a preddit midwit to look at shitself as an elite soldier, or look at being recruited into an evil organization as something impressive, because shit had "sky"daddy issues. In the Grimdarkness of the 41st millenium, it may suck to be sacrificed to fuel a dead god, but it beats every other option by a large margin, because it's not a faggy gray vs gray setting.
>>1678 yeah 40k at its best has this larger than life style permeating everything that gives it energy. everything is heightened and like you said theatrically sweeping & huge, (often literally) the grim darkness being over the top too is part of that, not an end to itself. while TC feels like it's just trying to be gruesome and bleak in a very simple and straightforward way, which to be fair isn't necessarily a knock, but i think it's a problem when you try to make the jump from cool standalone art to a setting people are expect to immerse themselves in.
