i've found consistently that pts are generally much more consistent in terms of quality and sourcing, but you're right on most of the things being available elsewhere

granted i'm not in most of them, but i think most people that do join are recommended to not interact at all with the pt forums/teams. just grab and seed whatever you have, respect the rules (mainly about the economy if you don't participate "socially") and you're fine.
the social experience aspect is completely optional (and frankly, if you participate in it, you should go outside and find real humans to interact with). the only elitism is the club joining aspect which is necessary for keeping quality and long-term seeding in place.
