I didn't expect 4chan to just up and die a few hours after I posted about it the first time, but oh well I'm posting a small "Both Protagonists" mod for SRW30. I wrote on the old /m/ that looking at how the script files were written it was possible to start with both Edge and Az with a few edits. And this is the result. It's not exactly elegant but it gets the job done. Consider this a very early proof of concept With this "0.1" release all 6 stages from chapter 1 Earth Route (including both variations of Combattler and J-Decker debut one) have been edited to include both Edge and Az. Just pretend they never went separate ways and that there were 2 Huckebein 30 in the Ominato base hangar. I'm open to any sort of suggestion or criticism if anyone here decides to waste their time trying it while waiting for the stream in half a day Before trying it, be mindful this only works for the english version (because every language has their own script files). You must start a new game (New Game + works the same) otherwise Az won't be added into the player roster. Also pick Edge and Earth/Ominato. The game can be a bit sensible if someone edits a file in a way it doesn't like, so to get the thing to work without risks I kinda "ruined" Az's versions of those 6 stages. It actually works both ways (you will get Edge even if you pick Az) but most Az dialogues have been moved to the Edge side so her story may be a bit nonsensical at times. The space stages are unchanged for now So, what does this file do (per pics related) - Edited dialogue for the VN scenes. Edge' story is the base but now some Az scenes have been spliced into it - Edited in-battle dialogue. Both protagonists will have their comments before fighting specific enemies - Edited spawns. Since all stages in chapter 1 are auto deploy the spawn points have been changed, both player and enemy side. The player side gets one more for Az, and 2-3 enemies have been added to those stages to balance things - Az stats are an exact copy of Edge's, including her spirit set. You can give a custom name to Edge but Az will default to her normal name. Outside of this however they are their own unit and their upgrades are separate - Same for their units. Both Huckebeins are fully independent. They don't share upgrades - Az works even beyond chapter 1. You can just deploy her as normal but she won't get her story upgrades nor will she have any dialogue, for now - I have no idea what happens if you recruit the "other" Az by progressing enough Here's the file https://litter.catbox.moe/5qhxpe.cpk I'm using litter because I'm (hopefully) planning to continue working on it. The file must be renamed to "mission_est010_en.cpk". Make sure to backup the original somewhere. The file must be placed in "SRW30\pc\data\mission". One last picture, but it's unrelated to the mod Since I read and reread the script files a lot in these days, I noticed a curious thing in Awakening (Earth Route Gridman's debut). Despite the stage being in chapter one the developers programmed a check for Fire J-Decker into it. The code is crystal clear: if the "you got Fire J-Decker" flag is set J-Decker dialogue will use the Fire portrait, which actually causes the cursor to point to the Dreisstrager because it can't find Fire J as a deployed unit. The other stages don't have this weirdness (although the only other one I checked so far is Combattler's debut if you get J-Decker first). I wonder if originally the devs intended the player to be able to get Fire J-Decker earlier, or if the space route version of Gridman's debut could be delayed further into the game and this check is a very old remnant of it
