I wonder why they didn't modernise the old UC designs.
FINALLY, this junk will be given justice.
>>90 m'quve is already perfect, you can't improve him
>>90 "Modernize" as in what? Because they are absolutely modern.
>>95 I beg to differ, but okay.
>>98 As in doing the same they did with Challia.
>>100 Well we don't know yet but they probably won't play much of a role in 0085, besides doing the 0079 bit was mostly Anno just geeking out and going through design documents and audio libraries trying to mimic the OG blended with modern techniques in the best manner. They didn't have to do it but they went the extra mile in every department, only thing missing is the original seiyuu but I assume they had their reasons for that.
I'm still not at all sold about throwing an Axis Shock equivalent like that without any build up or knowing much about this timeline's Char development. Hope they will expand on it as the show goes on otherwise it's just a bland throwback
>>46 >Visuals 8/10 >Music 4/10 >Narrative 7/10
>>109 Yeah, the OP/ED music is the weakest element. >>107 >inb4 the rest of the show is just battle tournaments I'd rage so hard. I hope for politics to actually play a part in the story. You can't have the Zabis in power and just handwave it and do nothing with the setting.
Is the show really gonna shift to a combat arena focus right after giving us the whole OYW AU schpiel? Also what the hell happened to Amuro?
I want to see my boy Garma. >>114 I assume he's still around somewhere considering Haros are a thing. Maybe Fraw Bow won in this continuity.
>>114 >Also what the hell happened to Amuro? He never became a soldier, since he didn't pilot the Gundam. Probably living a normal life somewhere. > combat arena focus Hopefully not for long.
Wait hang on since Zeon won does that mean Gato, Cima and Delaz are still around?
>>126 I'd assume in wildly different roles given things didn't go to total shit for Zeon. Cima probably retired from Zeon given how much she hates them.
>>128 >cima is a pregnant wife to a famous doctor >gato never met nina >delaz never went bald
>>130 Now the real question is if Burning is still alive. Because I really hope he is
It's safe to assume that Bright died, right?
>>126 Aina might never hook up with Shirou. Kou never meets Nina. Bernie goes back home. Mineva doesn't get groomed by Haman. What a timeline to be alive.
>>132 BRIGHT LIVES
>>132 There's a non zero chance he's alive.

>>181 goddamn those are some sexy zaku
>>92 Dozle died before the Big Zam was mass produced. It's not fair, anons. It's just not fucking fair... >>173 That run is so god damn satisfying.
episode 2 made me like the designs less, I initially enjoyed the mixture of a more raw prototype look mixed with the more lithe and humanoid Eva look, but I just cant stop thinking to myself, why not add armour or cladding over those bits, I honestly think its less realistic than the designs we see in other shows
I just realized; the GM just doesn't fucking exist on this timeline, does it? That was based on the Gundam, and the Feds lost it, so that's that. So does Federation MS development proceed based on the Guncannon? I didn't catch it, but were there downgraded, mass produced guncannon-type suits in that montage, or was it just more of the one from Side 7?

I honestly don't mind the new Char, he doesn't need to sound like Ikeda and he seemed pretty convincing as a Char.
Team Gundam Rocket
>>539 CHICKEN SEX
I watched ep 2 a little bit ago today. It really skips past the nitty gritty of how the war actually goes after Char steals the gundam. I think it's pretty interesting how the guncannon shoots beams instead of the solid rounds it did in the original. I hope we get a look at the larger world and it isn't just squandered potential on goofy mecha tournament nonsense. I could see a Zeon civil war breaking out over Kycilia and Gihren having a power struggle, especially if Degwin is still alive, but dying from old age.
>>27 The only thing good about this show is that it shows that zeon are the good guys. The win the war, the federation offers a truce and they simply accept and thats that. There are still independent sides so that shows that zeon and the zabi's weren't interesting in running an empire or anything. They really did just want independence. Combine that with the war crime the federation tried to commit and you have yourself a spicy zeon sandwich.
>>619 I doubt it will focus on that but maybe if people seem interested enough they'll have a gihrens greed anime

I really dig chalias hairstyle, I think il try it, what picture should i even show my barber? i aint showing him this
Ok the episode being absolute, complete nostalgiabait aside, I enjoyed it. But you know, that might be more because it's just a what-if of something already good than it is its own thing.
>>619 I think the movie was way more detailed. >I think it's pretty interesting how the guncannon shoots beams instead of the solid rounds it did in the original. I'm all for it. It always felt weird to me that they weren't beam guns to begin with. Guntank's already got the conventional weapons angle covered, and if you're experimenting with MS-sized beam weaponry, wouldn't you try to mount it directly on a suit and it's reactor first before working on a hand-held rifle?

is this show just not really popular? or do i have to wait til episode 4 for this place to pick up(referring to the actual 4chan thread) since this has all been in the movie so far. Last main gundam show i watched was IBO and that series was getting like 2-3 generals with maxed out 600+ reply posts on the same day the episode came out
(266.63 KB 2048x1494 GndLLKQaYAA3vst.jpg)

>>699 If you search through Desuarchive, G-Quacks did get plenty of long threads.
>>699 Yeah most threads happened during the movie release as the leaks were seeping through and when it released internationally, right now /m/ seems to be in a bit of an awkward spot where most of the regulars are either scattered around or doing something else with their lives, and of the ones that did make it here (or some other altchan) only a share of them care about the new show, whereas the rest either dislike one or two aspects of it or outright hate the entire thing.
The goofy running at the end of the OP is honestly growing on me.
>Is Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Good For Newcomers? >74k views on youtube
>>713 It doesn't make sense to me why someone would start the series here unless they just want to be part of the new, hot thing. The MSG movies aren't even that long if someone wants to the bare minimum.
>>717 I was actually talking about that with my friend today who's never watched a full Gundam series and he mentioned he might watch GquuuuuuX through to the end because it's only 12 episodes. I don't get it either.
>>717 >>719 I don't really think there's an issue with that, as an "insider" to the franchise you might think it'd be best to watch MSG first (you'd be correct) but is it really necessary? You can always watch it afterwards if you like GQuX, it already happened in Japan when the movie came out and MSG was trending as Japanese zoomers flocked to the original. As it stands I think it's a much better introduction to the franchise than gbitch, more emphasis on sci-fi, more emphasis on robots, more space nazis, etc.
(6.17 KB 225x225 images(5).jpg)

>>721 You could say GquuuuuuX is a trojan horse to get people into the original Gundam. Honestly though that's fine
>>699 The truth nobody wants to hear is that UC Gundam has no mainstream appeal among the younger generations (who are the rulers over pop culture) because it carries decades of baggage. Only oldfags who grew up with that stuff and some strange outlier nerds care about UC, which is enough of an audience to justify churning out UC spinoffs for all eternity but not enough to make those spinoffs mainstream hits. There are exactly two reasons people outside the core UC audience are giving G Quacks the time of day: First because Anno's name is attached to it and like it or not, Eva stood the test of time and remains a holy grail for otakudom. Secondly because the elevator pitch for this series sounds deliciously edgy ("Imagine an alternate timeline where the space nazis won!") You don't even need to have watched anything featuring those nazis previously to get sold on the idea purely because of the aesthetics. >>719 See the paragraph above.
>>348 >So does Federation MS development proceed based on the Guncannon? I didn't catch it, but were there downgraded, mass produced guncannon-type suits in that montage, or was it just more of the one from Side 7? Yep. Without data from the test Gundams the Federation was forced to use what limited data Tem Ray had on it and the combat data from the Guncannons instead for their mass production unit, the Guncannon Light-Type (Light Guncannon). They reuse the head and torso of the Guncannon, but use the limbs of the Gundam, and one of the shoulder cannons is replaced with a beam saber. It's a loadout very reminiscent of The Origin Gundam, which is probably not a coincidence here with how many references GQuuuuuuX has.
>>721 You make a decent point but the series gains far more interesting wrinkles if you know what's going on and who everyone is. It will probably be okay as a standalone series since so far the crucial world building is being set up but a new viewer wouldn't get the same feeling. Zeon winning the OYW is a what-if many of us have thought about. I'm mostly interested in how the world looks with the Zabis in power and how their civil conflict will spill over into the series. Many new people wouldn't care about that and only care about Machu and the gang. I can agree with gwitch not being a great starting off point since it is nothing like any other series. I thought the concept of oligarchies having a monopoly on weapons manufacturing was interesting and could have gone places but that ended up being just a backdrop on a shoujo character drama I didn't give a shit about. [spoiler]Some of the mech designs were good though[/spoilers].
>>723 >Only oldfags who grew up with that stuff and some strange outlier nerds care about UC You severely underestimate the reach Gundam has. Nobody in the west grew up watching 0079, and calling GQuuuuuuX nostalgia bait is extremely retarded if you are not Japanese. >>726 >Many new people wouldn't care about that and only care about Machu and the gang. I want to give newcomers the benefit of the doubt, we longtime fans know who the Zabi are but it's not that hard to infer that they are demagogues with some family feud mixed in.
>>727 Gundam has reach, but not UC Gundam specifically. Hence AU series like IBO and G Bitch had fast moving threads and lots of shitposting to their name, since any newfags could jump right in without having to worry about lacking any important context or knowledge. The AU creates a level playing field. UC spinoffs don't have that luxury. I didn't call G Quacks nostalgia bait, (Although it is that too) I'm just pointing out that its reach is inherently limited by aiming at a specific audience of people who are already familiar with the UC. So it should come as no surprise to the anon I quoted why this show would seem less popular than IBO etc. Lots of potential viewers are going to feel that it would be too much effort to "catch up" with the UC and decide to skip instead.
>>719 Same reason people watch the 0079 movies instead of the show, people don't want heavy investments these days. Western TV seasons have shrunk massively in episode count too.
>>733 western tv is atleast 50 minutes in length, not the 24 minutes bullshit you get in the east
>>734 >western tv is atleast 50 minutes in length Not cartoons.
>>731 IBO was 10 years ago man.
>>524 Also what happened to Doan
>>734 Then why not watch it instead of spamming an eastern thread?
>>727 >if you are not Japanese. I think it's more like if you're not east/se asian. I grew up in Thailand and went to uni in Japan and Gundam was almost equally as ubiquitous.
>>753 Fair point but I wasn't trying to be exhaustive, Italy also had MSG in the 80s.
>>753 >>764 You don't need to be Asian or Italian or whatever to be nostalgic for MSG. For one thing the original series was broadcast on Toonami twenty years ago, so if you caught that at the age of ten, you'd still be a middle aged man by now. For another thing the internet and file sharing are decades old too. If you first got into watching anime twenty years ago and had access to the net, there would be a higher chance than nowadays that you might end up watching the original MSG just because there wasn't such a huge selection to pick and choose from like today and MSG wasn't quite as antiquated yet either.
(317.40 KB 660x580 1444177124607.png)

>>731 IBO died a week after the watchthreads stopped. Gwitch did about the same. Don't get me wrong - it was funny shitposting about them on both /m/ and /a/, but they had no staying power New AU stuff doesn't hold the same status as Wing, Seed, or 00 anymore - the generations changed. UC still has a core oldfag audience and still generates discussion, so it gives newfags a topic to socialise.

>>909 >why Because Anno want to make his Gundam fanfiction a reality just like all the other Shin-{insert showa era franchise here} movies he made.
>>839 Not sure if bait. >>927 I love the fact that Anno is a Zeonfag.
>>928 Everyone's a Zeonfag. They got the better aesthetics, both in terms of MS designs and uniforms, they got the more colorful and memorable cast, they're the David challenging the EF's Goliath, they got the better ideals and ambitions where the EF always just wants to protect a self-serving status quo, the list goes on and on. There's not a single argument for being a Fedfag. I think Fedfags don't actually exist, just some Larpers who think it would be too boring if everyone was on the same page.
