The church is essential for high-trust, functional, homogeneous covenant communities. High-trust, functional, homogeneous covenant communities are the most productive and desirable incarnation of liberty. At the same time, the smaller the state, and the less bureaucrats try to subvert the church and replace it with their civic religion of climate change and the welfare state, the more the church thrives. The Bible may not be a libertarian manifesto, and the church might not be explicitly libertarian, but the church and the unrestricted market are mutually-reinforcing institutions. The church strengthens the market through making high-trust communities and decreasing transaction costs, while the market reinforces the church by reducing the church's republican enemy. They are compatible and symbiotic, even if they are not identical.
