>orthodox muslims think of Guenon's traditionalist and metaphysical writings?
they're a waste of time for the laymen who haven't or can't read the writings of the ulema (learned men) past and present. They are dangerous for Muslims that do not understand the Qur'an and sunnah especially in Arabic (as was understood and taught by the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وصحبه وسلم and his companions and the scholars that follow their methodology).
Philosophy and all these types of writings in general are a total waste of time unless a learned person reads them in order to refute them so that the laymen Muslims do not fall prey to the insidious ideologies that are polluting Islam, potentially leading them to deviation, and worse, disbelief.
It is irrelevant if some reverts and then writes a book. Reverts shouldn't be jumping into just writing non-sense. They should focus on studying. This guy being a revert, ma shaa Allah, but that doesn't mean he now has authority to write about the religion. He is not a scholar.
tl;dr waste of time, focus on authentic books of Islamic knowledge from it's people, not from reverts or non-muslims
t. revert Muslim, alhamdulillah
