When I look back at the campaign story, Nikke really doesn't have any problematic religious symbolism, there are no overarching political themes besides your common dystopian capitalistic ruling class. Its very much a straightforward hero's journey mixed with classical hero although they're muddying the progress with endless sidestories and filler. Its very much a blank slate but its almost entirely criticized/mocked/dismissed for fanservice reasons. It made me realize the story isn't really actually bad, but it isn't anything amazing either. Frankly I think the shock factor from your intial lowbar impressions of a sleezy coomerbrain gacha is what gave the story such an impact, and thats also why the story feels like its fallen off after adjusting. Maybe my cynacism is partily due to burnout but every new introduction of major characters like siren for ex. feels like the story is being watered down further. By EoS you''ll probably have 300+ nikkes that somehow play some minor role here or there. I guess this is a doomerish rant but I just wanted to rationalize my lack of enthusiasm lately, before long I might just start skipping events wholesale or quit when the timesink wears off.
