Fragmentation is good Anonymous 04/19/2025 (Sat) 04:03:46 No. 483147
I see some anons missing their glowie retainers, other's saying that this is going to be the new home everyone's going to migrate to, or shilling some other alt chan, bitching that it's not as busy as 4chan...whatever. But am I the weird one that hopes that 4chan stays dead so there's no reason to go back and imageboards stay somewhat fractured? The fact that there has to be just one site to rule them all is bullshit in my opinion. Going to the same 4 centrally run websites on your phone is 80% of the reason why the internet is so shit nowadays. Reject the idea of 4chan coming back, or trying to make one alt-chan being the new mecca. Embrace being a digital nomad, surf the web as our forefathers did. Explore, let no one site hold dominion over you, so you can always be truly free.
>>483147 I plan on sticking around even if 4chan comes back. I like the vibes on here. Even if the pph plummets (which I'm sure it will), it'll be a nice change of pace from time to time.

>>483147 you're right, but this website is designed very poorly. because of that it will never take 4chans place. elsewhere i've mentioned a few suggestions which i think i'll reiterate here 1. squash all the boards down to just a few, the main ones. as a temporary place for new topics people have /b/. this allows community to build...if you look at certain MMO's as an example, players would bitch about resources so the devs cave and give them 500 servers. now everyones scattered across all those servers and the game world is dead and empty. nice going. same thing going on with 8chan 2. have a meta board that discusses and veto's in boards. not only does this serve a function of BUILDING A COMMUNIUTY, but that way there isn't 50000 boards with 95% of them being empty. it wont feel so messy 3. simplify the site. there's too much buttons and shit going on...like all the css styles etc feel bloated and are annoying. have the basic stuff and then people can script in their own crap with addons. i like the layout of the front page but it could be cleaned up...like alot. make it simple, fast and not bloated. a few quality of life things need to be added aswell...like a basic shift to click thread hider. like cmon i dont want to see giant unavoidable dicks on my screen 4. ban general threads. a board serves the function of being a general in the first place. if a general becomes high demand or something just make another board. individual threads lead to unique and novel discussions. DETAIL. general threads lead to genericism across the board, even though the feel or seem convenient. they actually kill conversation 5. have sage. the community will govern itself by saging threads to stop them from bumping, and of course discouraging other anons from being retarded. this is not only communal building, but teaches other anons intuitively how to behave
>>483184 If the other boards are empty, what's the point of removing them? Nobody posts there anyway so they're not reducing the userbase of some other board. Also, try the overboard. You'll get all posts sitewide.
>>483147 I totally agree OP. Competition is good and will create better imageboards, but possibly at the cost of slower more fragmented discussion.

>>483193 because you'd rather have a board the community worked to create, there's a sense of value there, and autism wise, there's less clutter. just having a 5000 empty boards floating around for no reason and have stragglers is just sort of shit, and messy. you're going to have anons also venturing off into these other boards which detracts from the main boards the overboard is a bad idea too...like man, you guys just dont "get it" >>483198 right, i havent checked it yet because there's a bunch of shit all over my screen and 1000 different buttons, but since its there thats good.
>>483217 just trust me guise. there's a reason this place is low traffic, and why it will be low traffic again once 4chan is back. you can argue with me till you're blue in the face and think my reasons are petty or dont matter, but they do

>>483196 Honestly, I don't think that's as bad of a cost as some people make it out to be. I'm comfy here, and plan to stay tbh. But I'm speaking more towards the mentality of having to go back to the "one centralized hub", and giving certain websites a de-facto monopoly. There was a time when exploring websites and different communities was the norm, and I feel like 4chan staying dead would be more benefit than harm. It became too much of a name synonymous with an internet culture that it does not represent, and was actively hostile towards. But because of the name alone, people will still be drawn to it.
This was pretty much the best case scenario. Where did the hordes of jeets and shit posters go? Gone in a flash. Quality is up across the boards, not just 8chan, and posting is good. Sharty-chan, you werent the hero we asked for, but you were the hero we needed.
>>483147 That's not what my doctor said.
>>483223 I've been wishing for 4chan's downfall for a while now. Everyone keeps rambling on about decentralisation to save the web, well, this is it. But people have become so accustomed to the high pace propaganda slop on 4chan even though 95% of the content was inauthentic and meant to destabilise your perception. But it's the rush of constant novelty and the fomo of finding a pearl amongst the sea of shit that somehow sinks its hooks into them and they can't let go even though they know deep down that browsing 4chan is not good for them.
>>483147 >Embrace being a digital nomad, surf the web as our forefathers did You reminded me of the times when there wasn't just a single huge site for every main interest people have. Many don't know the thrill of exploring the interwebs, I kinda feel bad for zoomies, because they will never know what they don't have. On another note, I thought channers of all people would understand the benefits, the most obvious being a harder time for those who want to control us. Anyway, if someone's bored, maybe they can try hopping from place to place, I'm sure something will always be going on.
>>483147 The internet has changed. Dead boards have no value if no one reads what you have to say. At this point I'd rather go back to real life
>>483650 You cannot expect boards and other such spaces to magically fill themselves. I have no such delusions either, but I don't believe simply caving in or running away is the answer either.
>>483147 The shills can just run bots on every alt-chan site, can they not? I'm not sure if it's any better this way, if anything it's harder for regular anon now to check the "good stuff" since they have to bounce between many different site's boards to get "big picture", that they could've gotten in the past by simply lurking certain boards on 4chan alone. Sure there was censorship and shills, but all of the informants came there too to spill the beans.
