Just get someone to teach you it in an empty parking lot or something. Go slow, don't panic, keep your foot off the gas pedal unless you are using it actively. Focus on what you are doing, don't take your eyes off the road. Don't go on the roads until you are very familiar with everything in the parking lot, you should have all the controls memorized enough that you don't need to look around or think about it, you should have a feel for how fast you accelerate and how fast you can brake etc. Once you graduate to the roads, take it slow, it's better to piss other people on the roads off than it is to crash, and if you panic or something slowly go on the shoulder and park so whoever is helping you can drive instead. Always brake earlier than you think you need to until you have the feel for it mastered, but resist the urge to slam on the brakes unless you NEED to stop ASAP, it's more about deaccelerating and slowing down to a stop than suddenly halting the vehicle.
