Don't do what I did. Don't put off the inevitable. Don't wait and tell yourself the cat is having just a bad few days and will bounce back, when it starts going downhill get it euthanized by a vet that cares so deeply about end of life comfort that they have stuffed animals and special beds and you get to hold them while they go to sleep so it's not a bad death.

Watching my dog get put down was genuinely the hardest thing I've ever had to experience in life. I always tell myself that I'm happy I was there for her during it, but part of me regrets having to see the life drain from her eyes seconds after the needle penetrated her leg. It was 10 years ago now and I still remember her expression with perfect clarity. She was confused, like she didn't know what was going on. She kept looking at me for comfort. When I say I watched the life drain from her eyes, I fucking mean it. It's hard to describe, but trust me. You can fucking see it. I know it was for the best since her health was really beginning to deteriorate, but man. I dunno. Haven't had a dog since because I genuinely can't make that kind of decision again; do you watch one of your most precious friends die in front of your eyes? Or do you leave her alone with a stranger, wondering where her master went. Fuck, I'm sad as fuck now.
