In the beginning of fortune teller's chapter Reimu explained how fortune tellers, like shrine maidens, are one of the few professions that can interact with occult and such and that shrine maidens have special training and gods' protection, but everyone else should be extra careful while peeking behind the veil of reality, because they're gonna get tempted by the powers on the other side and shit.
Now bear with me.
The very next chapter is all about the fad of makeshift ouija boards and recreational spirit summoning sweeping through the human village.
If I remember correctly, most of the chapter consists of Reimu going around, looking displeased with amateurs dabbling in her craft, and culminates with her finding Marisa and Kosuzu playing with a real ouija from Rinnosuke, and summoning some scrub deity to both flex on them and make them shit their bloomers.
Now, I'm not saying anything, but if I was to put two and two together, I'd say Reimu exterminated fortune teller to dispose of a potential riva
