Jumpmaking Thread Anonymous 04/16/2025 (Wed) 05:56:58 No. 74
Since we have a whole board to ourselves, might as well have a dedicated jumpmaking thread. Thread rules/guidelines: 1. Productive discussion of ongoing jumpmaking efforts only. 2. No low-effort meme requests or OC begging; anything that isn't in direct response to a jumpmaker asking for feedback (or a relevant post in a reply chain tied to such a thing) is off-topic. 3. If you're an active or aspiring jumpmaker, post anything you want feedback on, whether it's WIPs, individual options, updates, etc. 4. The attached files are not mandatory methods of jumpmaking, but they do demonstrate a few different approaches that may be of interest to you. 5. Jumpmakers can still post any content they wish in the standard thread; this thread is designed for targeted feedback with minimal distractions stemming from other discussions. Rules are subject to change based on the needs of the community, but these feel like a good set of guidelines to start off with. BO Edit: More resources at >>165

>>1035 A lot of things in the WIP are extremely tentative. You can tell because it's not even halfway filled out in terms of skeleton and the version number isn't even past 0.2. And that's not even mentioning that I'm still in the process of playing the game to familiarize myself with it (and also enjoy what I can only describe as Jack Black's most awesome heavy metal fever dreams).
>>1037 Fair's fair in that regard then. Have fun replaying the game and good luck with the jump.
>>1044 Interesting to learn, but probably better shared in the general thread?
>>235 >100 cp - Prima Game Guide >Alright, now I know what you’re going to say - this seems useless. And, to an extent, it is. After all, what’s the point in buying a map when all the roads lead to different places than what they say they do? Well, there’s more in these books than just maps, because you now have official guidebooks to the first three regions. Strictly speaking Crystal Dust doesn’t have one as it isn’t official in the first place, so instead that one is just an annotated copy of Crystal's book. Item locations, Pokemon appearance rates and just where they appear, daily or weekly events, and various other things can be found within their pages. A great resource for those who don’t have the games memorized… and who didn’t take the drawbacks that would invalidate this information. Maybe if you meet Lorelei, you can get her to sign them? >100 cp - Basic Item Kit >Your ability to get your hands on various items isn’t entirely gone, though it may be severely impaired depending on certain choices. To that end, I’d like to hand you a small starter kit of sorts. Five pokedolls, five escape ropes, and five revives. It probably sounds like a bit much, but honestly given the situations you can potentially end up in, this is the bare minimum for a go-bag to get yourself out of the trouble you inevitably find yourself in. And, because it does represent getting you out of trouble, you will get a new set of them every other month. Not the fastest, but if you need more than that… Well, just these wouldn’t be enough in that case. >100 cp - Comfy Bed >So, on a Pokemon journey, the chances of a trainer going back home at basically any point is just about zero, or so low as to not be worth mentioning. It’s so very rarely worth it to do so after all. With that said, you may desire to go back there just to not have to deal with all this madness for a short while. And while you’re home, you’ll be sleeping in your bed instead of just wherever or in the back of a Pokemon center. So I’m gonna make it a stupidly comfy bed that you can’t have nightmares while sleeping in. It also has a mild healing effect that causes your Pokemon team to be restored whenever you sleep in it. Does that make the most sense? No, but it does so anyways. >200 cp - This Game >What’s that? You somehow haven’t had enough of the local nonsense and want to take it with you after you leave? Well alright then, I can oblige. This is a setup to play the gauntlet as an actual game, potentially with up to all nine regions and several fanmade regions thrown into the mix, with options for every drawback listed above in the settings menu and a few others besides. Such as whether or not the various regional gimmicks exist and are functional outside of their default region. For the sake of simplicity, there’s a slight downgrade and all of this is presented in a pseudo-gba format, but the option to play it in newer game engines and art styles does exist. >200 cp - Your Pokedex >So, you’ve been to another Pokemon jump before, right? Most people don’t start delving into this kind of thing until they’ve played the original at least ten or twenty times and the predictability of it all is just starting to get boring. If you haven’t, then this might be useless for you. But if you have… For starters, you’ll receive a Pokedex with accurate information on the local species, including any randomizations they’ve been through, for any Pokemon you’ve caught previously. Secondly? You can have up to six of those Pokemon as your team for the Gauntlet. They’ll be reset down to the level you met them at, and will lack any perks or other alterations much like how your own powers are currently missing, but being able to pick and choose your team should be worthwhile. If you haven’t been to any other Pokemon jump, you may instead assemble a team from gift Pokemon, such as the three starters you have access to and any other Pokemon that would normally be handed out for free. >200 cp - Three Moms And One Dad >So, a weird little thing. Because the three games are being squished together into one, you’re technically the protagonist of all three. Which means not only do you live in Pallet Town with your mom, you also live in New Bark town with your mom. And in Littleroot Town with your mom. Are you noticing a trend yet? In any event, congratulations, you now have three houses in three different regions. Possibly three moms as well. Don’t question how that works, they love you anyways. As for their practical use, any form of rest and recuperation you do here is enhanced to be much more effective, such as the use of the Comfy Bed. One of them will also send you a small handful of berries on a regular basis, which could be useful. Anybody want to suggest some 600 cp worthy items for this thing? I'm still missing one of those, and honestly I'm not feeling too good about my existing one either rn.
>>644 >This jump is built upon Scenarios. As such, for your 10 years, your powers, one-ups, Warehouse, items and perks will be sealed or restrained until such a time as you leave this jump, with the exclusion of whatever Body Mod you had. To make your start a little easier, you are given 1000 CP to start with. >*Due to its very nature and the rulings inherent to it, this jump is *not* built around the assumption that you may take it as a first jump. This is not a Gauntlet, this is not a setting where you will be handheld or given Perks to wipe your ass or to use the setting to wipe your ass instead. This jump assumes that you are willing to take what is essentially an ultra-hard challenge mode without the usual safety blankets afforded to you by the Chain; more than that, it assumes that you are willing to engage with these imposed limitations with an understanding of what that may entail based on where you are in your chain and are secure in the belief that you can survive with your usual set of powers locked away. If you are uncomfortable with any of the above, the idea of a jump where there are very real consequences for doing stupid shit or making mistakes with little room to course-correct or you do not think you are capable of survival without your usual arsenal of perks and items, then this is not a jump for you. Ignore it and use literally any other jump. It's amazing that you always have to do some super speshul "b-but my jump should break all the rules of Jumpchain" shit almost every time you post. Fortunately for you, a lot of the opposition you received in the previous community probably WAS shitposting, but God is this an obnoxious habit of yours.
>>1307 Quite literally the only reason I bothered posting these jumps here is because I felt I could because it's less likely for people to throw a shitfit even if I otherwise had no intention of getting the on the drive. These jumps in specific are meant purely for my entertainment and personal use, and I made it clear I had no desire to share them in the 4chan thread. If my honesty is still too much for you, then you can take your bitching about how I do things for my personal entertainment and blow it out your ass. Two jumps out of the nearly 20 WIPs I have doing some shit that I feel works better for them specifically may piss you off, but that's not my problem.
>>1310 I'm not going to break down your door or anything. But we've had standardized rules since the Quicksilver era for a reason. Jumpchain is not only a community, but a FORMAT of CYOAs. You're allowed to make whatever you want, but no one else would just randomly make something that is neither a jump nor a gauntlet, save for the ancient shitposter and plagiarist known as BabylonAnon. You are PERMITTED. You CAN, though perhaps not SHOULD.
Updated Enigma of Fear. Finished the 300 CP perks for the Cult of Fear and started on the Items. I've tied the Cursed Object(s) to a specific Scenario but I'm ambivalent to my current ideas and they could change depending on how I'm feeling or if I get different suggestions down the line. >>1314 Good to know. Don't really care because, again, these are for me and aren't going to get posted in the 4chan thread ever - but good to know. If you care about Quicksilver's rules or stuff from his era so much that you only bring them up in very specific contexts and nowhere else, then go find and tell him what a great job you're doing. I'm sure he'll appreciate it. If that's all and you don't have anything actually constructive to say, then I'll stop here because thread rule #1 is pretty clear on the basic decorum here.
>>1316 >so much that you only bring them up in very specific contexts and nowhere else I bring them up whenever they're relevant, though. Like when people talk about stacking dozens of appearance perks, I bring up Diminishing Returns. When people talk about changing jump duration and follower recruitment options, I bring up how he used 500-year long jumps and armies following you as absurd hypotheticals. I've brought up how he thought absolute immortality shouldn't be allowed and how people should be allowed to lose Jumpchain. I frequently remind people of the entertainment clause. I point out that he believed a Naruto jump shouldn't allow you to be as strong as the Konoha 11. Don't make assumptions.
>>1316 >>1319 Anyway, I'll agree to table the conversation to avoid any further drama.
Alright, this is more or less done. I'd like a second capstone item, and quite frankly to have triple lines for both perks and items, but I have more things to buy than I have drawbacks so I'm going to call that good enough. If you're going to jump this, I suggest actually trying to play the randomizer, its fun.
>>1339 I'd suggest posting finished jumps in the main thread, too.
>>1339 I'm not much of a gauntlet guy but thanks for the jump.
Jumpmakers! What jumps do you have in the works? What are you looking forward to finishing? What jumps would you like to make? What jumps would you like others to make?
>>1813 There are a few potential vampire manga I was thinking might be fun to make a Jump for this Halloween, but I need to reread the source materials before I decide if I'm going to attempt one of them, or not. As it's been ages since I've read any of them, and I need to make sure that they still hold up for me, and have enough cool shit to put into a Jump.
>>1871 Sweet. Are these more on the seinen variety of vampire manga or more on the lighter side?
>>1885 One of the two I'm considering is seinen, while the other one is probably more on the shonen side if still rather dark in places. I'd just flat out name them, but I don't want to disappoint anyone if I decided against making something that they wanted after rereading everything. Even in the best case scenario I'd probably only make one or the other.

Anyone ever lost a file for a WIP (as in you know you've done work on something, but can't find it in any of your usual jumpmaking folders)?
>>1887 Vampire Bund or Call of the Night?
(175.94 KB 800x1142 Vampire Bund.jpg)

>>1900 Well you called the seinen. Yes, I do have a thing for nudist vampire lolis. No, the other option has nothing to do with nudist vampire lolis I never heard of Call of the Night, I'll have to look it up.

I said Kirby Right Back At Ya! would be my next Jump, but I'm starting to think it might be better to do the general Kirby game jump I initially had in mind first. I'll probably make the RBAY jump shortly after, but it can't even compare to the level of whimsy in the games, which is precisely what I'm in the mood for right now. However, I'm still pretty intimidated by the sheer scope of what I'm proposing. I don't have the foggiest idea how to even start organizing this.
>>1911 If anything, my concerns over whether making this one Jump is the right move have gotten even worse. I just discovered SB has fully imaged Jumps for several individual Kirby games. I haven't checked whether they're any good, but it's proof that solo Kirby Jumps aren't as impossible as I first thought.
>>1913 The only Kirby game I ever played was the one on the 64 back in the day, so I can't really offer any advice, but you've made Jumps out of some very hard settings to get right before, so I have faith that you can do Kirby justice.
>>1913 >>1917 Eh, fair enough. I've had this debate with myself and anons alike several times. Maybe that's just a sign that I'm not going to find a "perfect" solution, and just go with my gut in making the solo Jump.

My chronic overthinking aside, anyone have any suggestions/requests for this general Kirby Jump? I remember some anons requesting Friend Hearts and the option to be Void Termina, but if there were other requests from /tg/ I can't quite recall them.
>>1941 Meta Knight's cool sword, cape, and ship?
>>1941 A cuteness perk.
>>1813 Skybourne is what I'm currently working on, but its stalled out a bit as I try to figure out what perks and items to add, especially the ones for Racial Backgrounds. On the plus side, I've got my plans for the formatting and images pretty well settled
>>1941 Art skills/power Soundtrack Magic doorways Cooking skills perk Megaengineering Warp Star or some other space ship Some sort of property purchase. [spoiler] I really wanna take some of the places from Crystal Shard
>>1983 >[spoiler] Just a heads up, like in Discord you can spoiler something here by just adding ** to the start and end of what you want to spoiler.
>>1911 Then again... I'm still watching Right Back At Ya!, making it fresher in my mind. Whatever, I'll start making plans for both. Whichever I decide to release first, the other won't be far behind.
>>1909 The ending for Call of the Night blows, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.
>>1941 CAKE, UNLIMITED CAKE
>>2040 Well shit. I hate it when that happens. Thanks for the heads up anon.
>>1941 well, there are a lot of things i want. friend hearts and void termina option, yes. but also like, galacta knight and morpho knight options. magolor and marx and sectonia options. the various wish granting stuffs(the star rod, the clockwork star, star dream), the crown, our own lor starcutter.
>>1813 >What jumps do you have in the works? What are you looking forward to finishing? Besides everything I've already mentioned here >>881 , I'm still working on an update for Samurai of Hyuga (more to polish the jump in general than to account for Book 5, since that didn't end up being too significant. Though Book 6 and the accompanying final batch of sidestories is coming soonish enough), along with EVO: The Shinka-Ron and Batman: The Brave and The Bold. >What jumps would you like to make? Anbennar: A Fantasy Total Conversion Mod for EU4, Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch, Luftrausers, Nuclear Option, Dawn: Aerowar, Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo and probably a few more things >What jumps would you like others to make? Path of Martial Arts.
