A lot of modern media suffers from this problem where, if they accurately portray something (From how people react when shot to being historically accurate in the setting), a lot people see it as cheap or fake. So they have to over-dramaticize it in order to make it "believable".

Another "small" detail people tend to leave out is that the line-of-thought that "began" the reason for the Revolutionary War was the near decade long French and Indian War that had ended almost 20 years earlier. So when you really boil it down, for 25 years, the American colonists had suffered from "Battered housewife syndrome" until they finally got to the point where they actually decided to pick up their arms and fight, and even THEN they were still willing to drop everything if their simple demands were met.
