As a
Gen X-er this is not true, at least for me. I have long recognized that having something in one format only is a means of control by companies, governments, etc. I have DVDs solely for the fact that should the aforementioned assholes actually gain control of usage means then they can, at least, control what you can see or hear and at most, control you through coercion. Eg
>Oh you watch that old show? you must be a racist or sexist. Please stand by while we send out the IRS to make your life a living hell.
What would happen if a global cyber attack were to affect .com domains by crippling DNS servers somehow? Normalfags would completely lose their shit because their bread and circuses would be taken away from them. especially if it was a physical attack that actually damaged such servers that would keep said servers down for days if not weeks.
For practicality I try to have my entertainment duplicated on multiple formats in case hardware becomes unobtainable to me.
When the world turns to
complete shit I will still have a reason to laugh and be entertained in my free time.
