The worst part of this shit is that if the story is accurate, the text which got this guy banned was more or less private. Clearly no human reported this guy to the moderators, nobody was "harmed" by the presence of some slurs hidden in an ancient chat log dump. The text must have simply triggered some bad goy alarm and attracted the attention of moderators.
I fucking hate proactive moderation. Nobody cares about context anymore, everything is zero-tolerance, one strike you're out.
I'm also pissed that all these internet communities allowed a single company to consolidate almost all wikis under their control. Is it really that difficult to host a goddamn wiki that people had to turn to an ad-ridden buggy mess like Fandom? I've always hated Fandom wikis, they're completely unusable without adblock and the interface sucks ass even after all the ads are removed. I feel like my computer is going to catch AIDS every time I browse a Fandom wiki.
