The big stupid tank always wins over the dps mage if you consider dnd rules. You've cast a spell, doing something that an archer could have done, and will shortly be useless for the day. Being a shaper of reality, meanwhile, the support mage could simply make the floor muddy, or summon something that can cast far more spells than he could. In bideogames, you have to know effective spells or weaknesses to not waste a mana bar, while physical classes will probably do decent damage no matter what element of sword they equip. So if we look at your images, it seems to pretty much be a duel, and the warriors likely specialize in anti-mage fighting, so terrain modification might be less effective, a mage might not have time to figure out the most effective spell, and I'm guessing you don't get to bring friends.
