It's true. Dungeon Meshi fell victim to the same worse translation when compared to the scanlation version. For example, the official version felt very formal and too business-like when compared to the lax, and comfortable fan translation of the series. Yet, the translations kept on going because it's one of the most popular ones on the site. And honestly, they
shouldn't stop because i wouldn't have bought all the books if it weren't for them. Fan translations are akin to those missionaries in uncharted lands, you'd get more people to read (win-win) by sheer exposure and accessibility compared to just stopping when someone decided to license it officially.
